The New York Yankees can sigh in relief as Aaron Judge is back in his natural groove. He had a very slow start to the current regular season. Moreover, fans had doubts about his fitness. Last year, the captain of the Bronx Bombers hurt his toe really badly after an accident at the Los Angeles Dodgers fence. That toe injury turned out to be a torn ligament. As a result, he had to miss 35 games on the trot. Later, in spring training early this year, he suffered from an abs injury that kept him out for a few more games.
Early in the spring training, at a press conference, Aaron Judge mentioned that he would have to take constant care and maintenance of last year’s toe injury for the rest of his career. All these factors resulted in the slow start to the ongoing season. However, after a slow but steady April, the 2022 AL MVP turned things around in May. He displayed his hitting prowess to the best of his abilities. As a result, he is currently sitting at the top of the list of most home runs this year. On a lighter note, lately, Judge revealed his skills in fashion as he came up with the Yankees’ road uniform.
The Idea For The Current Away Uniform Came From Aaron Judge
Recently, Ronald Blum of AP reported that the Yankees captain had an “Idea” after sporting a cool and retro uniform in 2021 for the ‘Field of Dreams’ game. Clearly, Aaron Judge has an eye for quality and fresh threads. That’s what influenced the Bronx Bombers to change their on-the-road uniform in the ongoing season. After wearing the retro uniform back in 2021, the 2022 AL MVP suggested the team incorporate the classic outfit. Lately, in an interview with AP’s Ronald Blum, Aaron Judge mentioned that he just asked if they could wear the retro outfit as an “Alternate.”

Adding to that, the Yankees captain mentioned that he liked the look and feel of it. However, Judge noted that he had no idea of making it the team’s away jersey. Moreover, the Yankees were pretty slow to respond to the suggestion of the 2022 AL MVP. Nonetheless, Aaron Judge did start the change in thinking about an alternate jersey and how it should look. Clearly, the retro look is working for the team, as they have won 26 out of 37 games on the road in the 2024 regular season so far. Moreover, the Yankees are 48-21 at present.
Equipment Manager Agrees With The Captain
When Aaron Judge suggested the idea for a new alternate jersey, things started changing slowly. But first, it resonated with the team’s equipment manager, Rob Cucuzza. The equipment manager told Blum that Judge was like, “We should be wearing this.” And Cucuzza responded by saying, “I will make a sample if you are serious.” At first, it would need ownership approval.
Cucuzza then added, “We’ll see where it goes.” It took the whole process for three years, but finally, here, the Yankees are sporting the same jersey the team used to wear between 1931 and 1972. Clearly, Aaron Judge can think of a career in fashion in his post-retirement life.
