The Golden State Warriors have been lucky to have their talismanic leader, Stephen Curry. He has helped to put the franchise into the NBA Map of powerhouses after many years. Previously, the team representing the Bay Area had won three NBA championships, and the last one came in 1975. It was a long wait for the Dub Nation to regain faith in the team that they can win championships again. Who knew it would take as many as 40 years to win their fourth title? But it would not have been possible without Stephen Curry and two more franchise icons – Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
They became an iconic trio who eventually led the franchise to win four NBA titles in a span of eight years. Moreover, this trio was instrumental in making the Dubs into a powerhouse in those eight years. But Klay, Dray and Steph have been playing for the same franchise together since 2012. After 12 years of these future Hall of Famers staying together at GSW came crushing news in the ongoing offseason. Klay Thompson left the Dubs to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year deal worth $50 million. Lately, Athlon Sports reported that there is a good chance of Curry leaving them as well.
Why Would Stephen Curry Leave The Warriors?
Since Klay Thompson announced his departure from the Bay Area, the Dub Nation have been scared of hearing the news that the other ‘Splash Brother’ might depart soon. If in the same offseason, the ‘Splash Brothers’ leave together, the franchise will fall crushing down. But Stephen Curry gave some relief to the fans in the Bay Area when he signed a historic extension of one year that’s worth $62.6 million. It means he must see through the 2026-2027 season with the Dubs. However, as a latest report, Athlon Sports revealed that Curry demands an All-Star player to join the Dubs which will help him continue to fight for more trophies. But the greatest shooter can leave if no such All-Star talent arrives.

Athlon Sports reported that the three-point King has been trying to bring some NBA stars to the Bay Area, including Paul George, who later decided to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2024-2025 season. Lately, Brian Windhorst of ESPN agreed with Athlon Sports, suggesting the Warriors will try to bring in an All-Star talent to play alongside Curry in the offense. But if they fail to do so, they can trade him this season or during the next trade deadline. It will be very sad and heartbreaking for the Dub Nation if both the Splash Brothers leave them in the same year.
The Dub Nation Must Find A Good Replacement For Klay Thompson
Stephen Curry is surely sad after his ‘Splash Bro’ left the franchise. But Thompson has not been playing at an All-Star level in the last two years. Clearly, there have been issues with his fitness. Nonetheless, the veteran shooting guard has been a contender for future Hall of Fame induction. Now, who’s a worthy replacement for Klay at the Warriors?
It is not just about having the similar offensive and defensive skills, but also there must be a great understanding between Curry and that new Klay’s replacement. Lately, in the Paris Olympics, everybody saw Steph and his rapport with LeBron James and Kevin Durant. What if KD returns to the Dubs? Or what about the young new talent, Anthony Edwards? They can be worthy replacements for Curry’s ‘Splash Bro.’
