Stephen Curry never appeared in the Summer Games before 2024. But he had his stints with Team USA before. However, his career has been more legendary in the NBA, like most other basketball greats. What he has achieved with the Golden State Warriors may never well happen again. When the skinny kid from Akron, Ohio, made his NBA debut for the Dubs, nobody thought he could transform the franchise to a modern day dynasty. Moreover, back in 2009, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James used to dominate the league. Who thought the skinny kid could become the next big thing in the NBA? But he did as he led the Warriors to four NBA championships.
Moreover, Stephen Curry is a ten-time All-Star with a couple of MVP titles in his bag. He was the NBA’s first regular season unanimous MVP. On top of that, along with his ‘Splash Brother,’ Klay Thompson, Curry changed the game forever. But now, like the other kid from Akron, Ohio, LeBron James, Curry, too, is getting close to Father Time. Hence, he believes that the 2024 Paris Olympics might be his one and only appearance in the Summer Games.
Stephen Curry Is Looking Forward To His Possibly Only Olympic Appearance
Recently, in an interview with Malika Andrews of ESPN, Stephen Curry mentioned that everything fell in place at the right time for him to participate in this year’s Olympics. He has been waiting for this moment for a long time. But now he is 36 years old. Hence, Steph knows that he does not have much time remaining in his NBA career before hanging his boots. On NBA Today show, Steph told Andrews that he feels the timing was right as he stayed healthy. Moreover, the three-point King believes the group that Team USA has been able to assemble is “Amazing.” Adding to that, Curry said that he knew the chapter where he could be an Olympics athlete was closing on.
Hence, it was now or never kind of a situation for him. Moreover, Stephen Curry mentioned that he feels very excited about his first and only opportunity, quite possibly be, to play in the Olympics. On top of that, the greatest shooter added that he is looking forward to the new challenge of bringing home an Olympic Gold medal. He said it is pretty cool to get those “First-time jitters” at this stage of his career.
Steph’s Previous Stint With Team USA
The Warriors talisman may not have appeared in the Olympics before. But that does not mean he has never played for Team USA. He had a successful time in the FIBA World Cup back in 2010 and 2014. Along with his national team, Stephen Curry has won a couple of golds at the FIBA World Cup. But then, he missed the Rio Olympics in 2016 due to ankle and knee injuries. Later, he opted not to participate in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics because he wanted to prepare for the next NBA season.
And did that sacrifice pay off? Yes, he was able to lead the Warriors to the 2021-2022 NBA Championship. Thus, he won his fourth title along with Draymond Green and Klay Thompson that year. But both Thompson and Green have won Gold medals in the Olympics. Now, is this the time for Curry to do it?
