Undoubtedly, Shohei Ohtani is the biggest name in the current free agency. He is eligible for the biggest signing in MLB’s free agency history. And why not? He is one-of-a-kind player and is a two-time MVP. Ohtani won his second MVP at the end of this season. Very few two-way players in baseball’s history were as good as the Japanese sensation. Any team would be lucky to have him.

There are even fans who call Ohtani the GOAT. But the 2023 season ended with a concern over his shoulders. In the last few games, Ohtani could not pitch really. Anyhow, the fans are speculating how much money the Japanese sensation will make this offseason. But which team is willing to pay the desired amount for Ohtani?

A recent post showed that Shohei Ohtani received an autographed ball from his childhood hero, Hideki Matsui. In the post, Ohtani said that he is not the kind of person who asks for a lot of favors. But he will always treasure the signed ball. On the other hand, the Team Japan and the Yankees legend Matsui seemed flattered that Ohtani is a big fan of his. It was a beautiful moment between two of the greatest baseball players of Team USA. But the post led the Yankees fans to some wishful thinking. For instance, they believe Ohtani will follow in the footsteps of Matsui, for whom he has so much affection, and join the Pinstripes.

Clearly, Hideki Matsui is still a fan favorite in the Bronx. Many fans thanked Matsui for bringing Ohtani to the Bronx Bombers. Fans thanked the former World Series MVP, saying he’s still coming up clutch for the New York Yankees. Some are thinking that Ohtani is a Yankee already. Albeit, the link between Ohtani and Hideki Matsui is a positive for the Yankees Nation. But the betting favorite to land Ohtani is the Dodgers. Then there are the new champions, the Texas Rangers, the Boston Red Sox, the Mets, and the Seattle Mariners.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt that he’s the most valuable free agent available in the market currently. But even after a week of free agency, not much information is available regarding Ohtani’s free agent status. Anyhow, it is clear that he won’t return to the Los Angeles Angels. But it came as a surprise that the Angels let him be an unrestricted free agent. Hence, there are a lot of franchises waiting for Ohtani to sign a long-term deal with them.

As per information, the teams close to landing the Japanese sensation are the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets. But what about the Yankees? Initially, some reports suggested that the Yankees failed to impress Ohtani to sign a deal. But there is no word yet out there about when or if Ohtani will sign anything soon. Albeit, nobody signed him yet, he’s still the topic of so many free agency rumors.
