The New York Yankees have had the best win-loss record in MLB, 42-19 this year, courtesy of explosive performances from prolific hitters and impactful pitchers. Currently, the Bombers’ roster is one of the most deadly and threatening in the entire league, let alone the American League.

However, with a large half of the season yet to unfold, the New York Yankees can afford to secure a few backups in case of a potential injury breakouts. Recently, the team were linked to an experienced relief pitcher in a blockbuster trade deal and interestingly, the pitcher is expected to be put on the market.

Miami Marlins relief pitcher Tanner Scott was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 6th round of the 2014 MLB draft. He made his major league debut in 2017 with the Orioles itself before they traded him to the Miami Marlins in 2022 in exchange for a draft pick and two minor leaguers. From then on, Scott went on to thrive in the major leagues. He has an overall 26–22 career record with a 3.84 ERA, 425 strikeouts, and 40 saves. Last off-season, Tanner Scott signed a one-year extension contract with the Marlins for $2.825 million and was also named  National League Reliever of the Month Award for September/October. The Marlins ended up retaining him for the 2024 season.

However, ahead of the trade deadline, the Marlins are expected to sell Tanner Scott for the right price. Notably, the relief pitcher has had a stellar season so far. He recorded a 1.57 ERA and a 23-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 23 innings pitched this year. For the New York Yankees, having an in-form relief pitcher is a big plus. They have closer Clay Holmes, who began the season with a sensational 20-game scoreless streak. However, Holmes is showing signs of wear out as the season inches the halfway mark. Hence, it’s wise for the front office to secure reinforcements as backup in case a case of injury pops up. Tanner Scott is a perfect candidate who is likely to be put up for sale by the Marlins. Also, Scott is a low-risk pick. That means the Yanks won’t have to part with big names in order to acquire Scott’s services this trade season.

Yanks Starting Rotation Poised To Script Franchise History

The New York Yankees’ starting rotation has performed remarkably well in the absence of ace Gerrit Cole as they posted a dream stretch in May. The rotation currently has the best win-loss record in AL and is all set to script year another franchise history with an extraordinary streak.

As per Sarah Langs, the New York Yankees starting pitchers have gone at least 4 innings in all 61 games this season. That’s their second-longest streak since 2012. One more game with 4+ innings and the rotation will extend the streak to the top of the list. And with the kind of form the starting pitchers have shown, the record looks inevitable.
