CHECKOUT: New York Yankees Sign A Reliever To Kickstart The Free Agency

The New York Yankees had a tough season in 2023, to say the least. But the tough time in the league has determined the front office to make some significant changes this season. However, there is a rumor that the Yankees want to sign Juan Soto, the lefty outfielder of the San Diego Padres. Moreover, Brian Cashman’s front office is currently looking for lefty hitters. That’s what their roster is lacking at present. If Soto is not gettable, then the Yankees can try and get Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers are looking for quality pitchers as well. And the biggest name for a pitcher available in the market right now is Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

But undoubtedly enough, these are big names that are available in the market right now. They won’t be easy to land for the Yankees. Moreover, the NY side will feel a lot of pressure in their cap space while pursuing them this offseason. Hence, it is essential that the 27-time champions also keep chipping in by signing smaller names. Recently, the Yankees signed a reliever to begin their free-agency activities. As per Epitome Sports Management, the Yankees signed one of their clients named, Yerry De Los Santos.

The new pitcher is a 25-year-old reliever. Later, they will reveal the contact details of the right-handed reliever. They did not begin the free agency with a major splash but with a sneaky pickup. Albeit he’s young, he’s not new to the MLB. He played in two seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Moreover, De Los Santos has a 1-4 career record along with a 4.14 ERA so far in his career. Indeed, he has proved his worth in these two seasons as he has 44 career strikeouts along with 24 career walks.

At present, the New York Yankees will look forward to Matt Blake, their pitching coach, to develop De Los Santos into one of the best pitchers in the league. They would want the new pitcher to acclimatize soon enough with the Yankees locker room. Moreover, the intriguing part of the new pitcher is his pitching mix. De Los Santos can throw a sinker and occasionally a slider along with a changeup. In the previous season, the new reliever showed some positives in his 22 appearances. He had a terrific ground ball rate. But that’s mainly because of his quality sinker.

Moreover, the Bronx Bombers want to erase the memories of the last season. For that, they need to bounce back stronger next season. And to get to that stage, the NY side needs to have a satisfying offseason. They have already waived six or more players from the previous season’s roster.

Moreover, they plan to do more so that there is enough space for star hitters and pitchers. On top of that, the Yankees plan to sign some big names available this free agency. It certainly won’t be easy to get all the top players they are willing to sign in this offseason. Hence, the 27-time champions must plan the whole thing perfectly this offseason.
