The New York Yankees are coming off a terrible season last year. They would like to forget about it. However, the wounds are still fresh from last year. Perhaps the NY side will use it as motivation to redeem themselves in 2024. What better way to redeem themselves than making it to the World Series? It has been a long time since the Bronx Bombers reached the World Series. The last time they did was when they won it in 2009. Since then, things have been going downhill for the 27-time champions. But the 2023 season was the height. They could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016.
Moreover, the Yankees finished the 2023 campaign with an awful 82-80 record. It was their worst season in the last 30 years. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers had the second-worst batting average in the league. Hence, it was high time to reinforce their outfield and offense. And that’s what the Yankees did in the offseason. After landing Juan Soto and Trent Grisham from the San Diego Padres, the NY side immediately started to look like contenders. Moreover, the fans are eagerly waiting to see how the outfield pans out this season. Lately, Aaron Boone revealed his outfield plan.
What’s The Yankees Outfield Might Look Like?
On March 5, in an interview with ESPN, the Yankees skipper outlined his plans for the outfield. They have so many stars to take the outfield positions. That really raises hope for the manager ahead of the 2024 season. Moreover, Boone told ESPN that he is planning to have Juan Soto in the right field, Aaron Judge in the center field, and Alex Verdugo in the left field. On top of that, the Yankees manager mentioned that Giancarlo Stanton might be an option for the right field in New York “Periodically.”
Aaron Boone says he's leaning toward keeping it Soto in RF, Judge in CF and Verdugo in LF — even when there's a short LF, like in Houston or Boston. Adds that Stanton will be an option "periodically" in RF in Bronx or in shorter LFs in the league.

Boone on @ESPN right now.
"There's no question in my mind there was an added edge to how they prepared this winter, this spring, and I'm excited about where our group is…" – Aaron Boone on the @Yankees pic.twitter.com/LuEcLzoDSC

But Boone might also take into account that there are short left fields in Houston and Boston. However, Stanton can also take the shorter left fields in the league. On March 4, Aaron Boone told MLB Network that the team gave added emphasis on how they prepared in the winter and then in the spring training. Moreover, the manager is very hopeful about where their group is right now. On top of that, the NY side’s outfield has no shortage of star power in 2024. They may even thank their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox, for trading Alex Verdugo in the offseason.
Stanton And Grisham Are Backup Outfielders
The NY Yankees have the top sluggers of the league in their outfield – Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo. Clearly, they will be the outfielders in the starting lineup. But among the outfielders that might come off the bench, there are Giancarlo Stanton and Trent Grisham.
In case of Stanton, Brian Cashman mentioned earlier that injuries have become a part of his game. For Cashman it seems that Stanton will wind up getting hurt again more likely than not. But the Designated Hitter has trained hard in the offseason to get slimmer and fitter. On the other hand, Grisham might get a lot of playing time this year.
