Yankees, Jazz Chisholm Jr

The New York Yankees will be active with an open minded approach at the upcoming trade deadline, as confirmed by general manager Brian Cashman earlier this week. Cashman chaired a review meeting to discuss the team’s losing stretch and vowed to take necessary steps to bolster the roster.

That being said, infield and bullpen are expected to be two major areas of concern the New York Yankees would address at the trade deadline. And as per the recent report, the team has expressed interest in an outfielder from the Miami Marlins. But they wish to turn him into an infielder full-time.

The New York Yankees lost their seasoned first baseman Anthony Rizzo to an arm fracture last month. While rookie Ben Rice has emerged as a strong reinforcement, the Yanks’ infield woes are not limited to first base. Veteran third baseman DJ LeMahieu is yet to show his spark, as he’s got only three extra-base hits in 129 plate appearances. Hence, to resolve infield woes, the Bomber’s front office has apparently enquired about the availability of Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. Jon Heyman of the NY Post listed Jazz as a potential trade target for the Yanks. However, the level of interest is still unknown. Notably, Chisholm is a versatile outfielder/infielder. However, he hasn’t played an infield in more than two years.

Regardless, the New York Yankees are confident in Jazz Chisholm Jr’s ability to play infielder, and if the trade materializes, Jazz is expected to play as first baseman full-time. Notably, Jazz Chisholm Jr received an All-Star nod in 2022, wherein he hit 254/.324/.535 over his first 60 games. However, the breakout year ended prematurely due to a back injury. Moreover, in the past two seasons combined, Jazz hit .253/.314/.436 with 31 home runs over 755 plate appearances. As far as the 2024 season is concerned, the outfielder/infielder has been hot. He is hitting .255/.324/.419 with 12 home runs, 18 stolen bases, and a 104 OPS+ through 77 plate appearances. While Jazz is a seasoned outfielder, having played 183 games in center field, he also played 164 games at second base and 46 at shortstop. Hence, Jazz Chisholm Jr is worth the gamble for the New York Yankees at the upcoming trade deadline.

Fans Unhappy With Yanks’ Latest Trade Target Choice

Meanwhile, the Yankees nation is apparently unhappy with the front office’s trade target choice. Jazz Chisholm Jr was rumored to be a person of deep interest to Yanks as they dialed up to Marlins to enquire about the OF/INF’s availability. However, the informed fans do not believe he is the right choice or a perfect fit in the roster.

Many eagled eyes fans noticed that Jazz Chisholm Jr has concerning injury history and his numbers have been mediocre as per the New York Yankees standards. Hence, the miffed fans showered their displeasure on the internet and urged New York Yankees front office to abort the plans of a possible trade.
