The New York Yankees have done a remarkable job this offseason. They were in no position to feel happy about the 2024 season after the last season. Last year saw the NY side having their worst season in 30 years. They finished the regular season with an awful 82-80 record. As a result, they could not make it to the postseason for the first time since 2016. However, the only positive from the last season was that they were able to maintain the streak of winning seasons. But it just was not satisfactory for the Yankees Nation. They have been rooting for the team to make it to the World Series for a long time now. It has been over a decade.

The last time they made it to the “Big Dance” was back in 2009 when they won it all. However, things have changed so much since then. In fact, the team has gone downhill in the last few years. However, the front office made sure they made some significant changes ahead of the next season. Now, the outfield and the offense look really good in the Bronx. But there might be one more change coming from their end this winter.

MLB Executives Believe “Cashman Can Make One More Change This Offseason”

Recently, an NL Executive told MLB.com that the Bronx Bombers can make a big move in the remaining days of the offseason. There are still several big names available in the free agent market. However, the market has thinned down naturally over the last 30 days. But the Yankees are still looking for a pitching ace before the spring training starts. Clearly, the best starting pitcher available in free agency is Blake Snell. But the former San Diego Padres ace demanded $270 million for nine years. It might be a little too much for the NY side. But as per USA Today, the Yankees might be sweetening their offer to Snell. They previously offered $150 million for six years. However, that was not good enough for the two-time Cy Young winner.

In case of another lefty hitter, the Yankees can still sign Cody Bellinger. Both Snell and Bellinger have made a mark in the National League last year. Snell won the Cy Young Award. On the other hand, Bellinger won the Comeback Player Of The Year. Both these players have been All-Star-level names at one point in their careers. Cody was a former MVP in the National League. He’s versatile in defense. On the other hand, Blake Snell has won the Cy Young in both NL and AL. That’s how good a starter he is. Moreover, the Yankees might go all-in for either one of them.

Yankees Can Add One More Closer This Offseason

The Yankees have been trying to make things right since last season. They bolstered their offense and outfield using their pitching resources. In the end, they faced a real lack of depth in their bullpen. That’s why they signed Marcus Stroman, Luke Weaver, and so on for short-term periods. Stroman has a two-year deal, though. But the Yankees might look to add a closer from the Cleveland Guardians, Emmanuel Clase.

Executives predicted that the Bombers might make a big move before the Spring Training begins. It might as well be the closer from the Guardians instead of some high-profile free agent. During the offseason, they had links with several closers in the league for a trade. But the Yankees had missed out on all of them.
