The New York Yankees are still at a crossroads when it comes to finding ways to bolster the pitching depth for the upcoming MLB season. After Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes fell apart, the front office went on radio silence when it came to holding talks with fallback options.

While the team has been linked to several high-profile candidates, an official move is yet to come. Under this circumstance, the Yankees have been urged to take bold steps. An MLB insider linked the Bombers to a one-year rental starting pitcher who can produce wonders after reuniting with pitching coach Matt Blake.

Yankees Asked To Make Splash Trade To Land Shane Bieber!

Shane Bieber is a Cy Young Award-winning pitcher known for his outstanding performance on the mound. Known for his dominant fastball and devastating breaking pitches, Bieber has been a cornerstone of the Cleveland Guardians’ rotation. However, the dynamic nature of baseball trades means that no player is entirely untouchable. And the Yankees seem determined to bolster their pitching staff for the upcoming season. Thus, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic urged the Bronx Bombers to trade for Bieber this off-season. The pitcher will enter his final year in 2024 and is scheduled to hit free agency in 2025. While his future unavailability is a concern, Kirschner wants NYY to neglect that issue. He explained how the team opted for the same approach with superstar outfielder Juan Soto.

Not only that, the MLB insider revealed how the Yankees must reunite Shane Bieber with ex-Guardians and current Yanks pitching coach Matt Blake. Blake has remained a key figure who shaped Bieber’s career during his stint with Cleveland. Thus, Bieber reuniting with Matt Blake in the Bronx could result in a breakout season for the pitcher. Furthermore, Chris Kirschner suggested Yank’s part with Everson Pereira, who failed to impress last season post-debut. Despite putting up a stellar show in minors, Pereira failed to continue the momentum in majors. “A package centered around Everson Pereira, who struggled after getting called up, could entice Cleveland, especially with the power he showed in the minors,” wrote Kirchner. Overall, the trade suggestion seems like a pure gamble move. But if the team is determined to win a championship in 2024, something has to give.

Yanks Lose Frankie Montas, But Reunion With Jordan Montgomery Still On Cards!

Jordan Montgomery, Frankie Montas

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees apparently mulled a reunion with Frankie Montas and Jordan Montgomery this off-season. However, they have lost Montas to Cincinnati Reds as they signed him in a one-year $16 million contract earlier this week. Having said that, the Bronx Bombers still seem alive in the play to land Montgomery.

Jordan Montgomery won the championship with the Texas Rangers in 2023. But the Rangers do not seem too keen on extending him. For now, Jordan remains a free agent and has received active interest from multiple teams, including the Yankees. While the past may come to haunt the Bombers in their pursuit, the front office’s spirits remain high.
