We’ve finally entered the final 24 hours of the MLB mid-season trade deadline, and the New York Yankees are amongst a few teams likely to make a move before 6.00 PM on Tuesday. For starters, the Yankee front office bolstered the infield depth by trading Jazz Chisholm Jr from the Miami Marlins.

However, the New York Yankees issue extends way beyond infield woes. Bullpen and starting rotation would require at least one upgrade in the next 24 hours. That being said, with the hype around the Yank’s pursuit of the Detroit Tigers ace building, MLB insider Jon Heyman burst the New York fan’s bubble with a damning update.

The New York Yankees aimed to bolster the starting rotation with a significant piece at the upcoming trade deadline. Accordingly, the front office enquired about Blake Snell and Garrett Crochet before approaching the Detroit Tigers to pursue their ace, Jake Flaherty. Interestingly, Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports fuelled the speculations by stating that negotiations have reached an advanced stage. Bob also claimed that if the Yanks were to acquire Flaherty, they might given up Nestor Cortes in exchange. However, Jon Heyman busted the hype to claim that Bombers’ negotiations with Detroit Tigers ‘didn’t look overwhelmingly positive.” Notably, Flaherty is most likely to be moved as his last scheduled start was scratched at the last moment.

However, Jack Flaherty’s future destination still remains unknown. That being said, the trade, if materialized, will boost the New York Yankees’ starting rotation significantly. Flaherty is having a much better year compared to Cortes. He owns a  7-5 in 18 starts with a 2.95 ERA and 133 strikeouts. Additionally, his ability to pitch deep into games and handle high-pressure situations makes him a valuable asset. However, the trade talks have reportedly not gone as smoothly as the Yankees had hoped. Moreover, with the trade deadline closing in less than 24 hours, the Yanks might need to explore other options if the Flaherty deal faces further hurdles. The trade market includes several pitchers who could still make an impact, although possibly with less star power than Flaherty. Overall, things look dicey for the Bronx Bombers as they remain desperate to bolster the roster to keep the postseason and even championship aspirations alive in the crucial season half.

Nestor Cortes Breaks Silence On Trade Speculations

With his name actively floating in the market, New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes said he was briefed by his agent about a change of dynamics. However, Cortes believes the Yanks want him enough to stay and that he will survive the trade deadline. Not only that, the pitcher added that he wants to stay with the Yanks as the organization shaped his major league career.

However, he understands the evolving situation. Overall, Nestor Cortes is prepared for the worst while hustling ever day and every hour. Notably, Cortes’ numbers have been underwhelming this year with a 4.13 ERA in 22 starts. He allowed 15 runs in his past four starts, and Cortes’ win-loss record plummeted to 4-9.
