The tears of joy rolled out of Lewis Hamilton after triumphing his home GP. Although this was his 104th victory, it felt like his first as he jumped in the air with ecstasy. Rain clouds over the Silverstone track drenched the barren land as Hamilton rediscovered his passion after two years. The moment Hamilton crossed the line, the grandstand erupted with jubilation, and the Mercedes pit took a sigh of relief. The much-awaited victory had finally arrived.

While everyone congratulated the seven-time world champion, the technical crew played an equally important role in improving a problem-ridden W15. The technical crew led by James Allison taunted the laws of physics as they fought against the ‘ground effect.’ Thus, Andrew Shovlin has opened up about the aftermath of a scintillating victory, underlining its importance.

As the checkered flag waved, the British crowd swelled with joy, eager to see their hometown hero lift the trophy. During the post-race rituals, Hamilton was smeared in champagne and emotions as he lifted off the weight of not winning a race. Notably, it was his first victory since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The entire Silver Arrows crew, from Brixworth to Brackley, were thrilled after witnessing Hamilton’s masterclass. Moreover, their trackside engineer Andrew Shovlin congratulated the Briton, as he described the feelings after a solid comeback.

Further, he said it was a significant result, as the team is determined to go out on a high with Lewis. Shovlin highlighted the importance of Hamilton for Mercedes, as he has been the leading man during the glory days. Thus, it would have been ‘upsetting’ for the team if Lewis had left with no wins. Moreover, the engineer reaffirmed that the performance encouraged the team and that this victory provided a much-needed boost of motivation. Their goal now is to further improve and achieve consistent victories.

According to the British engineer, his countryman is now enjoying the car as his self-confidence has skyrocketed. Additionally, he stated that the team is not satisfied with just two victories as their hunger for wins continues to grow. The crew is still working hard, refusing to become complacent with their current results. Ultimately, he claimed the team will introduce more upgrades in the upcoming weekends as they aim to push all the limits.

How Mercedes Might Have Dodged Future Penalties After Retiring George Russell?

According to Shovlin, the technical staff knew the car might not reach the finish line since the water would have wrecked the power unit. As a result, it was a no-brainer to continue racing, even if it meant risking engine damage. Thus, avoiding fines on the following weekends was more of a precautionary measure.

Russell’s W15 was outfitted with new components, including an internal combustion engine, a new motor generator unit heat, and a new motor generator unit kinetic. This raises the total number of alterations made to the power unit to three, one shy of triggering a penalty. Therefore, they would have faced significant penalties if the Mercedes team had pushed the W15 to finish the race.
