The trophy case at Brackley has been left alone for quite some time now. Unfortunately, Mercedes hasn’t won since 2022. Lewis Hamilton, the star racer, is having a dreadful season. Hamilton formerly ruled the racing circuit but struggled to make the first row. Furthermore, following minor changes and improvements, the Silver Arrows aimed for a successful performance in Canada.

As a result, the squad fared well on a soggy, rainy race day. While George Russell secured the team’s first podium, Hamilton was not far behind. However, the seven-time world champion was not overjoyed with the performance. The racer was rather dull, pointing out his mistakes. However, a social media post from Mercedes’ official account infuriated Hamilton’s fans.

Mercedes Corrects Mistake After Fan Feedback: ‘Thank You for Holding Us Accountable’

The Canada week began with severe rain, and Mercedes performed admirably despite the challenging conditions. The free practice allowed the technical crew to collect data for Saturday’s qualifying. Furthermore, George Russell took the pole for the first time since 2022. Hamilton, on the other hand, finished in eighth place. The Briton did well until Q2 but lost momentum in Q3, dropping him to seventh place. On the much-anticipated Sunday race, the 39-year-old demonstrated his ability and finished fourth. He was in contention for the podium, but teammate Russell was slightly faster, finishing third. This season, the 26-year-old driver has been statistically more successful than Hamilton. However, P4 was the best finish for the British after a difficult few weeks. Lewis Hamilton expressed great unhappiness with his performance during the weekend, calling it one of the worst he’s ever driven.

However, despite a decent run on the tracks, AMG Petronas were on the radar. Apparently, the team posted a picture of Russell’s trophy, claiming it to be their first podium of the season. However, the social media team forgot about the Chinese GP.  During the Shanghai sprint event, Hamilton finished at P2, making it the team’s first podium. Thus, the fans were disappointed and thought the team was neglecting Hamilton. After plenty of comments, the Silver Arrows reposted an image with an apologetic caption. The team clarified that it was their second trophy, not their first, and thanked the fans for holding them accountable.

When asked about Mercedes’ performance in the Canadian Grand Prix, Team Principal Toto Wolff voiced cautious confidence. He emphasized that the addition of various new pieces has steadily increased the car’s performance, contributing milliseconds to total speed. Wolff stated that the team’s efforts are generating noticeable dividends, with even greater gains predicted in future races, notably in Barcelona.

He remarked on the recent race results, remarking that finishing third and fourth indicated an improvement over past efforts. Despite some bad feelings arising from missed possibilities for more roles, Wolff remains optimistic.
