CHECKOUT: Matt Chapman’s Latest Off-Season Move Could Pave The Way For New York Yankees!

Multiple left-handed batters, preferably outfielders, will remain the New York Yankees’ top targets this off-season. Brian Cashman, the franchise general manager, confirmed the same earlier this month. However, besides the outfield, the team must address a lot of other key areas of concern as well.

Third base will undoubtedly be one of them. Since Josh Donaldson exited the team mid-season, a new revolving door emerged at third base. While Oswald Peraza held the fort during the last stretch, the Yankees cannot enter the 2024 season without an experienced presence at that particular position. Meanwhile, third baseman Matt Chapman, the Yanks potential free agency target, reportedly made a bold move with respect to his future, and it could be a blessing in disguise for Yanks.

Third baseman Matt Chapman, previously a cornerstone player for the Oakland Athletics, joined the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022 and registered a decent season in 2023. Moreover, the Blue Jays expressed their desire to retain Chapman for the 2024 season and beyond. However, it seems the impending free agent isn’t too keen. As per the TSN report, Chapman turned down an extension offer from the Blue Jays worth over $100 million over four or five years, which suggests that the infielder is keen on entering free agency in 2024. This could be a blessing in disguise for the New York Yankees, as Chapman was rumoured to be their potential free-agency target.

Chapman’s defensive capabilities at third base are widely acclaimed, and his offensive contributions add another layer of appeal. The Yankees could benefit significantly from adding a player of Chapman’s calibre to their roster, especially in a key defensive position. Additionally, Matt’s arrival could bring stability and star power to the third base position. He will address any defensive or offensive gaps that the team may have identified in their disappointing 2023 season. Having said that, as with any off-season speculation, the exact details of Chapman’s move and its implications remain a mystery. But the infielder’s willingness to make a move directly aligns with the Yanks roster needs. The coming weeks will surely bring more developments in this intriguing storyline. And fans would hope for positive news that could see Chapman donning the iconic pinstripes in the upcoming season.

Showdown Between Yankees & Mets Expected This Off-Season!

Yankees
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Brian Cashman

Japanese ace pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is set to be posted on MLB free agency next week. And it could trigger a massive war between New York City rivals, the Yankees and the Mets, predicts SNY analyst Andy Martino. Andy added that in the Steve Cohen era, the city rivals did not have a common free agency target to pursue. But Yamamoto’s entry could change the dynamics this off-season.

“He and Hal Steinbrenner have not been after the same guy yet, high profile guy. So, that’s kinda interesting, the Mets really want him, so does the Yankees, so let’s go,” concluded Martino. Well, the ace pitcher will not only draw interest from the New York-based teams but also from the whole of MLB. A lot of suitors have emerged from the dark in these past weeks. But ultimately, the one with the deepest pockets will steal the deal.
