CHECKOUT: Jasson Dominguez’s Return Could Revamp Yankees’ Outfield Lineup For 2024!

The New York Yankees successfully strengthened their outfield depth for the upcoming 2024 MLB season. By adding Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo, the Bombers not only covered the empty spots but also added backups for emergencies. Having said that, the club also has an esteemed prospect currently under rehab.

Jasson Dominguez, the highly regarded prospect of the New York Yankees, is currently under rehabilitation owing to Tommy John surgery. He showcased his hitting prowess in 2023 to stake a claim for a major league lineup in 2024. While the prospect is scheduled to return by the mid-2024 season, his return would certainly change the Bronx Bombers outfield dynamics.

20-year-old outfielder Jasson Dominguez left MLB fans mesmerized with his exhilarating Major League debut last season. While his stint only lasted eight games owing to a grievous UCL tear injury, the prospect undoubtedly staked a claim for a spot in the 2024 season’s starting lineup. For now, the Yankees projected outfield lineup looks like Aaron Judge in center field, Juan Soto in right, and Alex Verdugo in left field. Having said that, while Dominguez is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, he is expected to regain match fitness by July next year. So now the big question is, will Jasson receive a call-up? Or the Yanks send him back to Triple-A for an extended rehab assignment.

The situation is far more complex than it seems. Jasson Dominguez’s return will disrupt the Yankees’ outfield plan for the 2024 season. But then again, injuries are bound to hit at some point in the season. So, the prospect could come in handy under unfortunate circumstances. Also, since the 20-year-old is coming off a grievous injury, the Bronx Bombers can use him as a DH, which will result in reduced playing time for Giancarlo Stanton. Obviously, Dominguez does not have to be a regular starter for the Yanks in 2024. He is the future of the franchise and has a long way to go before he grows into a reliable hitter. Right now, just as any other rookie, Jasson is prone to slumps. Thus, it’s ideal for the Yanks to take things slow with Dominguez and play him at regular intervals rather than every day.

Tragedy struck a young 20-year-old outfielder, Jasson Dominguez when he tore the UCL of his right elbow earlier this year. Mere seven games after his debut, a minor discomfort turned into a UCL injury, which required immediate Tommy John surgery. Subsequently, the outfielder went under the knife and has been in rehab ever since. The average recovery time for a position player with Tommy John surgery is 7-9 months.

With that calculation, Jasson Dominguez should return around July 2024. Having said that, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone recently updated on the prospect’s health status and reckoned that he expects the latter to attend spring training. While the skipper revealed that Jasson should be able to return sooner rather than later, he refused to put a specific timeline for the same.
