20-year-old outfield prospect of the New York Yankees, Jasson Dominguez, made his much-awaited debut last weekend. He faced the Houston Astros and drilled a home run in his very first major league at-bat. “The Martian” signed with the franchise with a record $5.1 million bonus contract in 2019 and has received massive hype since then.
In his minor league stint, Jasson Dominguez was way ahead of his peers with regards to skillset and baseball I.Q. He even aced this year’s spring training but was put off due to a lack of Triple-A experience. Having said that, a debut in 2024 was just a formality. But started aligned for Dominguez as he got to the big leagues this season itself.
Jasson Dominguez Makes A “Martian” Gesture At First Roll Call In Bronx!
The Roll Call, a beloved tradition among Yankees fans, involves chanting the names of each player in the starting lineup during the early innings of a game at Yankee Stadium. Meanwhile, rookie Jasson Dominguez got his first roll call on Tuesday. After debuting over the weekend, the prospect wore the pinstripes for the first time vs. Detroit Tigers. The Bleachers Creatures chanted his name at the top of the first innings. Dominguez, well versed with the Yankee culture, had prepared a perfect response. The 20-year-old had a big smile on his face as soon as he heard his name. Further, Jasson touched his index fingers together and lifted one finger to the sky while facing the fans as he responded to the roll call in style.
The gesture was apparently a reference from “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” which is a movie based on a friendly alien. However, the movie was released before Jasson Dominguez entered the world. He hasn’t even seen the movie, but interpreter Marlon Abreu came up with the idea and conveyed the same to Jasson. The fans loved the Martian’s perfect gesture and applauded the same. “Incredible. Being here at the stadium as a player, it’s such a great experience overall,” Dominguez said while sharing his home debut experience. The prospect drove a double in his first hit at the Yankee stadium in over four at-bats. All in all, it was a perfect home debut for the Martian, who is excited to see what the future holds.
Jasson Dominguez Scripts Yankees History On Debut!
Luck favors the brave as it did for Jasson Dominguez. An underwhelming season for the Yankees worked as a blessing for the 20-year-old prospect as he received an early major league promotion. Last weekend, Dominguez debuted against the Astros and slammed a home run in his very first major league at-bat. That two-run long hit placed the rookie in an elite list of Yankee players.
Jasson Dominguez became the youngest Yankee to homer in the first MLB at-bat and also the fourth in the franchise’s history. Captain Aaron Judge was the last to achieve the feat in his rookie season in 2016. “It was like, it’s a 16-year-old kid (and) you see the skill set right in front of you,” said Aaron Boone.
