Subsequently, Cashman was caught in a whirlwind of criticism and faced heavy backlash over his remarks. Amid growing resentment, the GM managed to garner some support from franchise owner Hal Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner interacted with the New York Post via email and issued a statement.
The New York Yankees owner first condemned the cuss words used by Brian Cashman, suggesting that the choice of words could have been better. But at the same time, Hal Steinbrenner admired the passion shown by the GM. He added that during the entire course of the 2023 season, a ridiculous amount of false narratives were being spread by the uninformed and uninvolved people, which led to intense frustration amongst the leadership group. Having said that, Steinbrenner refused to dive deep into the details of the false narratives. Earlier, the Yankee owner, during his virtual press address, defended skipper Aaron Boone by dismissing the narrative of Boone being believed to be making in-game decisions solely on analytical data.
