Red Bull’s decision to retain Sergio Perez for the remainder of 2025 raised many eyebrows. It was simply due to Checo’s never-ending slump and inconsistency. Thus, F1 fans believed Red Bull had a better driver pool to replace the Mexican racer. Whether the rookie Liam Lawson or experienced Daniel Ricciardo, both were rumored to be Max Verstappen’s partner. However, Christian Horner put faith in the 34-year-old racer and gave him another chance.

Even after retention, Checo failed to make an impact on the squad. As a result, Max Verstappen was the lone warrior, safeguarding both the Drivers and Constructors title. Recently, his defense was pierced by McLaren, who overtook Red Bull in the Constructors Cup standings. While some F1 aficionados blamed Checo for his recent struggle, others believed technical flaws in RB20 played a significant role. Perez himself highlighted key weaknesses in the car that the technical team had previously overlooked. Now, with the team finally acknowledging its oversight, the chance of a comeback appears promising.

During a recent interaction with The Race, Perez expressed relief over RBR’s acknowledgment of the RB20’s issues, which he had been pointing out for a while. The 34-year-old Mexican revealed that some engineers approached him after a disappointing run in Monza. The engineers accepted the problems he highlighted in the early season were now much more apparent. The RBR racer has to endure plenty of criticism after a string of shoddy performances. His slump was connected with a lack of focus and lack of intent. However, since the technical issues have been identified, the team is working consistently to resolve them. Thus, the engineers apologized to Perez for neglecting his suggestions.

Further, Perez revealed a major upgrade for Austin is in line, which could turn around the Bulls’ season. Moreover, he believes the team has found the right path after months of uncertainty surrounding the car’s behavior. He also explained the unpredictability of RB20, which is holding back the squad from flourishing. However, the recent developments will surely yield positive results.

After months of discussion over Perez’s Red Bull future, his seat for 2025 now seems secure. The team is showing trust in him and acknowledging his feedback to improve overall performance. Thus, Checo is confident he could reward the technical team’s persistent efforts with his on-track performance.

Sergio Perez views this weekend’s race as a crucial test for Red Bull to confirm if their recent developments are moving in the right direction. After a positive step forward with the car’s performance in Baku, Perez is optimistic that if the improvements hold up in the current race, it could provide a significant boost to their season. He believes there is potential for even more progress in the upcoming races if the upgrades continue to show positive results.

Perez emphasized the importance of this weekend as a key moment to validate the team’s adjustments. If the progress made in Baku proves effective on this track as well, it could lead to a strong finish for Red Bull in the remaining races of the season.
