Lewis Hamilton, one of the most decorated and successful drivers in Formula 1, took a major career blip earlier this year when he announced his break up from Mercedes after 12 years of glorious journey. In a transfer of the century, Hamilton will be driving for Scuderia Ferrari from 2025 season onwards.
Needless to say, the abrupt transfer caught not only the F1 community but also Mercedes off guard, as they had no prior knowledge of such events unfolding behind their backs. Meanwhile, despite Ferrari’s significant decline this season, ex-F1 boss Eddie Jordan predicts a complete turnaround following Lewis Hamilton’s entry in Maranello.
Ferrari To Get Stronger Than Mercedes In 2025? Ex-F1 Boss Predicts So
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, 39, will move his base from his home, Great Britain, to Italy next year as he signed a multi-year contract with Scuderia Ferrari in February this year. 12 years and 6 championships later, Hamilton took a plunge as he embarked on the final phase of his illustrious motorsport career. Meanwhile, since Lewis confirmed his fate, Mercedes went from a mid-field team to a winning contender. They won three of the final four races, and the car was competitive and, most importantly, fast. Hence, many believed that perhaps Hamilton would be regretting his decision given how Ferrari has lost ground since Charles Leclerc’s Monaco Grand Prix victory.
Regardless, while Ferrari may have lost its competitiveness this season, ex-F1 boss Eddie Jordan has set high hopes for 2025. While talking on the Formula for Success podcast, Eddie Jordan revealed that Mercedes will hold on to this strong position going forward into the second half of the 2024 F1 season. However, that does not mean the critics can write off Scuderia Ferrari that easily. “Ferrari is going to be incredibly strong because I think Lewis [Hamilton] is right back on his game,” Jordan said. Notably, Ferrari is building a strong internal unit with Fred Vasseur, assembling a dream team of engineers. And Lewis Hamilton is finally back to winning ways as he not only ended his 945 days winless streak at Silverstone but also won in Spa with a commendable drive. Hence, when Lewis is put in a competitive car, he transforms into a beat which Ferrari will hope to unleash in 2025.
Ex-F1 Driver Supports Lewis Hamilton Over Ferrari Switch
With Mercedes gaining speed compared to Ferrari, many critics argued that perhaps Lewis Hamilton jumped the gun too quickly and that joining a declining Ferrari was a wrong choice after all. However, former F1 driver Herbert does not agree with the narrative. He opined that Hamilton’s choice was right, as Mercedes were not looking good at the start of the season.
“Ferrari were doing better. It was also an opportunity to reset in that quest for an eighth world title,” Herbert said. And despite Mercedes witnessing a sudden turnaround, Herbert is firm in his opinion that Lewis Hamilton made the right choice by switching to Ferrari. It is also because winning isn’t Lewis’ ultimate goal. The feeling of wearing red overalls is equally important.
