With a 50-29 record in the first half, the New York Yankees were expected to have significant representation at the upcoming All-Star game. The likes of Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Volpe, Jose Trevino, and even Anthony Rizzo were nominated in their respective roles.

However, as the New York Yankees hit a snag in June, the Phase 2 voting count took a hit. Only Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, two of the most successful hitters in the American League, appeared to be headed to the All-Star weekend until MLB released the list of relief arms on the AL roster.

In a significant development, New York Yankees reliever Clay Holmes has secured a spot on the American League All-Star roster, joining teammates Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in representing the franchise at the prestigious event scheduled for July 17 at Texas. Holmes was the latest confirmed Yankee on the All-Star roster after the American League released the list of relief pitchers picked up for the event on Sunday. Notably, the closer had a sensational start to the season wherein he accomplished all 13 save opportunities and went scoreless for the first 20 games at a stretch. However, off lately, Holmes has hit a snag. In the last seven appearances, his ERA shot up to 10.80, which is why the reliever was shocked to see his name on the list.

“This organization, my teammates, coaches, this is a special place to me. To be able to represent the team is something that I don’t take lightly,” Clay Holmes said after the All-Star nod. Notably, this is the relief pitcher’s season All-Star appearance in the past three seasons. Before Holmes, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto were confirmed as American League All-Star outfield starters. The Yankees captain went through after Phase 1 voting itself as he received the highest number of votes in both leagues combined. Moreover, Juan Soto also received significant votes in Phase 2, and hence, the duo will fly to Texas together. Needless to say, it was a momentous occasion for the New York Yankees to have significant representations at the All-Star game despite the slide in the past few weeks. Amid a losing streak, the team will strive for a strong finish before heading into the All-Star break.

Juan Soto, the generational star, is flexing his impeccable talent in the pinstripes this year. Across 88 games, he is hitting .294 with 21 home runs, 63 RBIs and .983 OPS. Owing to his first-half brilliance, Soto was voted as American League outfield starter for the upcoming All-Star game.

Notably, this is Juan Soto’s fifth All-Star appearance in a row, and his Yankees teammate Marcus Stroman hyped him up with a strong social media message. Stroman called Juan Soto the ‘youngest GOAT’ and wished him all the best for the main event in Texas. Soto will be joined by captain Aaron Judge and relief pitcher Clay Holmes at Globe Life Field in Texas.
