CHECKOUT: Aaron Judge & DJ LeMahieu Being Honest About New Yankees Hitting Coach

The New York Yankees had a terrible 2023 season. They did not make the postseason. It was the first time since 2016 that they failed to make the playoffs. Moreover, the NY side had a lot of injury issues last year. They had a pretty long Injured List (IL). When Aaron Judge hurt his toe after a freak accident at the Los Angeles Dodgers fence, he missed around 35 games on the trot. As the team missed their captain in the batting order, they faced a big blow to their offense. In the end, the Yankees had the second-worst batting average in the league.

They were right behind the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics, in lowest batting averages. Anyhow, the Bronx Bombers made some significant changes this offseason. At present, the outfield and offense look really good. All of a sudden, the Yankees look like a contender for the World Series again. Coming off a season to forget, the NY side will look to redeem themselves. In the offseason, the Bronx Bombers had a change in their coaching staff, too. Lately, star sluggers of the team, like Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu, talked about their new hitting coach.

The new hitting coach, James Rowson, has impressed both Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu. Moreover, the team hopes the new hitting coach can contribute enough to help the team make the postseason this year. As the Opening Day is approaching, Rowson has setup his own system. And it seems as if Judge and DJ feel great about the new hitting coach’s system. Moreover, Rowson has been with the team for nine seasons already. In fact, he was a minor league hitting coordinator for the New York side in seven of those nine years. Later, DJ and Judge told The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty that Rowson is the right candidate for the job, coming from the minor league to the big league.

Moreover, the Yankees captain mentioned that Rowson gets the analytics side as well as the biomechanics of the player’s swing. Also, Judge added that the new hitting coach understands the game plan and what it means to stand in the box when the team’s hitters are facing 98 MPH with a nasty slider and some sink. Later, DJ LeMahieu mentioned initially he heard a lot of good things about Rowson from other teams. Then, DJ himself had some good sessions with him. Hence, he feels Rowson is a good fit.

Why Aaron Judge And His Team Really Needs Rowson?

Last year, the Yankees scored 673 runs. They had an overall rank of 25. Clearly, the offense needed a major boost. That’s why it was so important to land Juan Soto, the best hitter in the game. But with Soto, Judge, and DJ, the new hitting coach will have to do his best to get the Bombers back up to speed in their offense.

Moreover, James Rowson impressed the Yankees with what he had to offer when they hired him from the Detroit Tigers. Even before the Opening Day, several Yankees players praised the new hitting coach. Hence, it looks like the plan to hire Rowson as their new hitting coach has already started to work.
