The New York Yankees didn’t perform up to the standards this season. It’s no secret now, as the team missed out on the postseason for the first time in seven years. Having said that, was roster construction the sole problem of the disaster? If you look at the players’ potential on paper, the lineup was one of the strongest forces to be reckoned with.

However, things began spiraling down after the same high-end lineup failed to perform as per their standard and caliber. Every other name except for Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole struggled incessantly. Thus, ideally, the blame for the lost season should fall on the players’ shoulders. However, a popular podcaster feels that there has been no accountability whatsoever in the Yankees clubhouse.

Aaron Boone Hits Backs After Being Accused Of Not Holding The Yankees Guys Accountable!

New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone appeared on the Talkin Yanks podcast for the final time this year as the team wrapped up the season over the weekend. However, even during the last episode, things got heated between the podcast host, Jomboy, and the Yankee manager. Jomboy pressed the wrong nerve when he accused Boone of being overprotective of his players, even when they underperform and make bad plays. He disagreed with Aaron Judge’s comments made a few days ago, wherein the captain lauded Boone for holding the guys accountable. However, the skipper begged to differ and instantly snapped back at the host.

Aaron Boone said that he has always held the guys accountable in open forums for the past several years. He has been critical and supportive at the same time. Jomboy, meanwhile, countered the skipper’s claim, saying that he has defended bad plays this season. To this, Boone called the host emotional. He feels that the fans are emotional and thus tend to ignore the bigger picture. During a bad play, he understands what’s happening behind the scenes and what the circumstances are because he is watching the game up close. The fans, on the other hand, are so outraged that they misunderstand the situation completely. But since Boone is practical, he defends those plays wherein he feels that the player in question gave his 100% and the missed chance just happened to be a misfortune.

This whole debate began when Aaron Judge gave a statement to support Aaron Boone amid heavy scrutiny. He advocated for his skipper, saying that he was the right person for the managerial role. Boone has achieved a greater level of communication with the players in the clubhouse. He is direct and upfront regarding his assessment.

Judge added that Aaron Boone holds the guys accountable whenever he feels that they have not performed up to the benchmark. Boone immediately calls the player in question into his office to have a brief chat about the situation. Having said that, as much as the skipper is candid with his strong opinions, he never forgets to show support during challenging times. That’s everything a player needs from his manager, and it’s the reason why the Yankees love Boone.
