The 2024 mid-season trade deadline will close on August 1, and the New York Yankees, potential aggressive buyers, will likely bolster the infield and bullpen depth to aid the postseason push in the second half. However, nothing comes without a price, and to materialize a trade deal, the Bombers will have to make sacrifices.

Any trade deal will undoubtedly involve prospects from the farm system. The New York Yankees have fostered an elite farm system over the years. However, its time to cut the leash and make some bold movers for the betterment of the roster. Here are 3 such prospects the Yanks must consider trading at the upcoming deadline.

1. Everson Pereira (Yankees No.5 Prospect)

Outfielder Everson Pereira is one of the New York Yankees’ most exciting outfield prospects. He got an opportunity to debut in the major league in September last year. However, the outfielder blew up his chance completely. He hit .151 with 10 RBIs across 27 games in the big leagues. Meanwhile, this year, he was optioned back to minor league, wherein he hit  10 home runs with a .859 OPS in 40 games before enduring an injury setback.

While Pereira possesses a strong arm and solid defensive skills, the Yanks are already stacked with outfield talent at the major league level, including Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and another prospect, Jasson Dominguez. Hence, trading Pereira could bring in a significant return, possibly in the form of a starting pitcher or an elite reliever.

2. Brock Selvidge (No. 10 Prospect)

Brock Selvidge, a promising left-handed pitcher, has been developing well in the Yankees’ minor league system. Known for his projectable frame and a mix of pitches that includes a fastball, slider, and changeup, Selvidge has the potential to become a reliable starting pitcher. However, with the New York Yankees’ current focus on winning now, Selvidge’s timeline to the majors might not align with their immediate needs.

The New York Yankees’ rotation has faced injuries and inconsistencies this season, making it imperative to acquire reinforcements at the upcoming trade deadline. Hence, including top prospect Selvidge in a trade package could attract teams willing to part with proven major-league talent in exchange for a promising young pitcher.

3. Agustin Ramirez (Yankees No. 20 Prospect)

Meanwhile, trading catching prospect Agustin Ramirez could prove to be a gamble, as Austin Wells is yet to establish himself as a reliable starting catcher. Ramirez owns a .942 OPS and 16 home runs in 58 games with Double-A Somerset Patriots this year. With a strong arm and improving defensive skills behind the plate, Ramirez also boasts a powerful bat that has shown promise in the minors.

However, due to pressing roster needs, trading Ramirez could help the Yanks address bullpen reinforcement or infield depth. Catchers with Ramirez’s skill set are always in demand, and his potential could fetch a high return. Hence, by leveraging Ramirez in trade discussions, the Bronx Bombers can fill gaps in their roster and strengthen their chances of making a deep playoff run.
