The World Baseball Classic, an international baseball tournament, will begin on March 8 this year. The fifth season which was originally scheduled to take place in 2021, got delayed due to the Covid pandemic. Eventually, the event got rescheduled and will take place this year from March 8 to March 21. Moreover, 20 teams will participate this year in the league, four more compared to the previous edition.
Meanwhile, ahead of the tournament, news regarding the team\’s respective rosters has been doing rounds for quite a while now. Specifically speaking of the Dominican Republic, the team is dealing blow after blow each day. After Luis Castillo and Freddy Peralta pulled out of the tournament, their next ace pitcher in the rotation, Luis Severino, is all set to miss the league as well.
Luis Severino Disallowed To Participate In WBC 2023 By Brian Cashman
New York Yankees pitcher, Luis Severino, joined the club back in 2011 as an international prospect. Luis stayed with the Yanks all these years and made his major league debut in 2015. Originating from the Dominican Republic, the Yankees pitcher was all set to represent his national team in the World Baseball Classic 2023. However, Luis pulled out of the tournament at the last moment owing to differences with the Yankees\’ front office.
According to reporter Hector Gomez, Luis Severino will miss the upcoming WBC 2023 as he did not receive the necessary permission required from the Yankees\’ bossman, Brian Cashman. Apparently, New York Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman, does not want to risk Luis playing in the WBC to keep him injury free. Luis dealt with a lot of injuries last season. Moreover, Frankie Montas is out of the rotation due to a shoulder injury. So, Luis Severino would have the chance to contest for the spot in the spring training.

Yankees Reeling Under Injury Concerns Before The Opening Day
The New York Yankees have a love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with injuries. Every season, they end up missing a significant player in the postseason. However, things went a little too far this year, as the Yanks are dealing with injuries even before the 2023 MLB season commences. Frankie Montas, the Yankee fifth pitcher, injured his right shoulder and will miss a month of the 2023 season.
A few names have emerged as possible replacements. Domingo German and Clarke Schmidt are the two front runners for the spot. However, now that Luis Severino is all set to miss the WBC season, he, too, will have an equal opportunity to contest in the spring training as a possible candidate. FYI, the spring training will begin in a couple of weeks, and opening day will commence in March.
