Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have been the New York Yankees’ main offensive power this season. The team has depended on the duo to score many runs each game. But it is clear that the NY side will need all of its players to be at their best if it wants to go deep into the playoffs. Since June 13, the Bronx Bombers have been in a downward spiral, going 6-16 in the remaining 22 games of that month.

Later, in July, they started with a 4-8 record before the All-Star break. Then, the Yankees have been looking to make some smart moves ahead of the trade deadline. Not just for trades, but Aaron Boone has been changing the batting order a bit to just change the luck. Lately, the catcher, Austin Wells, has been playing the role of the cleanup hitter. He gets to bat right behind Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. That must be a really exciting position to come to bat.

The Yankees catcher has been enjoying his chances at bat in the middle of the rotation. Lately, Austin Wells gets to bat at the cleanup spot behind the Judge-Soto duo. The catcher seems to love his position in the batting order at present. Aaron Boone puts Wells in the fourth position of the batting order. Lately, the team is feeling the impact of the catcher’s at bat. They see him as one of the promising talents of the Bronx Bombers. During the 2020 MLB Draft, the Yankees had picked their current catcher. On Tuesday, the NY side enjoyed another victory over the hosts, the Philadelphia Phillies. Later, in a post-game interview with YES Network, Austin Wells expressed how he feels about playing at the fourth position.

The catcher said, “Just being in the lineup, it’s a lot of fun. It has been really a blessing.” He added that hitting behind the two best hitters in the league is a lot of fun for him to do. Clearly, Aaron Boone and the whole team have placed a lot of confidence in the catcher. As a result, he gets to bat cleanup. Therefore, Wells has the chance to hit around the top contenders for this year’s MVP. He draws inspiration from Jorge Posada, about whom Wells said, “Jorge was a great catcher and hitter for the Yankees for a long time.” Lately, Austin set the best July slugging percentage since Posada in 2007. After getting that news, Wells said, “So that’s really cool.”

After the Yankees won against the Phillies 7-6 on Tuesday, Wells praised the team’s bullpen arm, especially Michael Tonkin. On Tuesday, Tonkin pitched the last two innings for the Bronx Bombers. He has been a great and reliable asset for them. Moreover, Austin Wells agrees that Tonkin has been great for them.

The catcher added that the hurler doesn’t care what situation he comes in, as he will pitch the same to try to get outs. Wells believes that Tonkin’s ability to perform in various scenarios has added a lot of value to the team. The catcher added that it is always useful to have one such reliable and dependable reliever who can throw very calmly.
