Anthony Rizzo, the New York Yankees’ first baseman, has been struggling on the base paths lately, prompting his manager Aaron Boone to intervene.

The New York Yankees are playing on stolen bases this year. Anthony Volpe, the new kid on the block, registered his first career stolen base on the opening day. A relatively shorter shortstop has done well in the field to avoid getting run out while stealing a walk. Additionally, Gleyber Torres had got three steals so far. However, not everyone is enjoying running around the base paths.

Anthony Rizzo, the New York Yankees first baseman, opened up his homer account on Sunday. However, there is an area of concern where the baseman is struggling heavily. Hence, the skipper, Aaron Boone, had to intervene to calm the baseman down and make him understand the importance of patience in baseball. In a recent podcast, Boone spoke briefly about the incident.

Despite his excellent batting and fielding skills, Anthony Rizzo has been making several mistakes when running the bases, including getting caught in rundowns and making poor decisions on the base paths. As one of the Yankees’ key players, Rizzo’s struggles to get those steals have been a cause for concern for the team. Hence, the skipper Aaron Boone decided to have a one-on-one conversation with the baseman. Further, he explained the entire orderly on the latest Talkin Yanks Podcast.

Aaron Boone revealed that on the base, Anthony Rizzo goes into an invisible mode and just runs around to steal a few walks. However, now, the pitchers have become more mindful of him. They are alert to Rizzo’s movement behind the base and run him out the first chance they get. This has frustrated Rizzo to the core, as this wasn’t the case earlier. Hence, Aaron Boone said he had a conversation with the baseman and calmed him down. Boone admitted that the baseman got the tactic completely wrong on a few occasions but is confident of getting it right in the future.

Meanwhile, off the field, Anthony Rizzo has won the hearts of his fellow teammates. Before the start of the new 2023 MLB season opening day, Rizzo welcomed the team with a precious gift. Below each of the locker room seats, he placed a box of two expensive wine bottles made in Italy, along with a handwritten note. The note read moving welcoming messages for each and every member of the team.

Speaking on the grand gesture, Anthony Rizzo said the first game of the season is a very special time for the team. After a grilling spring session, the players finally come together as a unit for the first time. Hence, a gesture like this instills a sense of belonging among the new as well as the existing guys in the bullpen. Overall the Yankees’ campaign so far has been nothing but successful. They stand second in the AL-East with a record of 3-2.
