Amid a grave injury crisis, the New York Yankees found its knight in shining armor. The pitching staff bore the brunt of the injury bug as they fell short of starters in the rotation. Hence, the team had no option but to rely on the bullpen not just to close the game and also to make the game during the middle innings. The Yankees placed a bet on a young reliever which proved to be the best decision they ever made.

Ian Hamilton, a young right-hand reliever, was recruited by the Yankees after an impressive show at spring training. Further, the team trusted him to close and save the game on many occasions. To everyone’s surprise, Hamilton did not let down and stood up on the mound each time with stellar pitches. However, the young reliever recently faced a major setback which now hinders his future participation in the season.

Ian Hamilton Placed On 15 Day IL, Reinforcements Summoned

The New York Yankees have made a roster move, placing right-handed pitcher Ian Hamilton on the 15-day injured list due to a groin injury. The injury occurred during a recent game against the Toronto Blue Jays when Hamilton was pitching in relief. After throwing a pitch, he immediately felt a sharp pain in his groin area and had to leave the game. The medical staff evaluated him and determined that he needed some time to recover and rehabilitate the injury. Hamilton’s presence in the Yankees’ bullpen has been valuable this season.

In 16 bullpen appearances, Ian Hamilton recorded a 1.23 ERA with 30 strikeouts. Moreover, the reliever did not even allow a homer in the first 22 innings pitched. Hence, losing Hamilton for the next 15 days will undoubtedly be a blow to the team. Regardless, the Yankees have already called in reinforcements. LHP Nick Ramirez has been summoned from the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill in the roster space. Nick pitched on three occasions for the Yankees this season and put forth a 2.84 ERA. Hence, the team will bank on him to save the day on any given occasion.

Luis Severino To Finally Make His Season Debut For The Yankees

The New York Yankees finally had some good news coming their way. Right-hand pitcher, Luis Severino, is officially scheduled to commence his season debut on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. Severino had been on IL since March due to lat strain. Apparently, the Yankees delayed his rehab assignment multiple times, which frustrated the pitcher and the fans alike. Regardless, after a lengthy delay, Luis will don the pinstripes for the first time this season.

On the other hand, LHP Carlos Rodon, who took a cortisone shot last week for his back injury, has resumed throwing activities. For now, he would just throw it on the ground to assess if the fluid injection did work or not. Also, Giancarlo Stanton is nearing his rehab assignment, and it could take place somewhere around next week, provided the medical team deems it appropriate. Overall, the recent injury report has brought in some mixed news for the Yankees. Let’s see how the team capitalizes on it.
