An Underrated Left Field Candidate For The Yankees Who Might Turn Around This Year’s Game And Title-Winning Chances

Elijah Dunham-Yankees

The New York Yankees have a talented outfielder lying in the minor league who could potentially solve their left-field woes.

New York Yankees are gearing up for the upcoming spring training. The players are asked to report at the club’s camp in Tampa, Florida, at the end of next week. A total of 69 players will participate in the camp. Moreover, the Bombers have a daunting task up their sleeves to resolve the internal conflicts related to the roster and fill out the major holes during the spring training.

The major problem lies in the wide-open left field slot. After messing up Andrew Benintendi’s extension contract, the Yankees front office kept on digging their own grave after consecutive failed negotiations in the free agency. On top of that, the luxury tax rule further restricted the organization’s moves in the free agent market. Hence, the only option left now is to look out for a candidate internally.

Elijah Dunham, The Yankees Potential Solution To Left Field Woes

Ahead of the 2023 MLB season spring training, New York Yankees handed out invites to 29 non-roster players (NRIs) for the training camp. The players mainly consist of minor-league prospects and a few veterans. Among them lies the Yankees’ left-field solution. A 24-year-old outfielder Elijah Dunham has received an invite for spring training for the very first time. Elijah is thriving under the shadow in the minor league for the Yankees. Last year, while representing the Somerset Patriots, the outfielder scored 17 home runs, 63 RBIs, and 37 stolen bases with an average of .248 in 110 games.

Furthermore, Elijah Dunham impressed everyone with extreme power and speed. On top of that, the outfielder can play second base. Hence, the 24-year-old could have a shot at the final roster if he performs well in spring training. As the Yankees plan to increase the involvement of the youth in the major league, Elijah has received a golden opportunity. Though his inclusion into the New York Yankees’ main roster looks unlikely for now, the outfielder could certainly be an option to look out for during the mid or postseason.

Top Yanks Prospects To Look Out For In Spring Training

Jasson Dominguez-Anthony Volpe

As the New York Yankees announces the list of participants for the spring training, the focus shifts to the top young prospects. Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez will remain the top names to watch out for. Both are ranked among the top prospects for the Yankees this season. Hence, they are expected to shine and dominate the spring training and possibly find a spot on the final roster.

On the other hand, 23-year-old catcher, Austin Wells, is another exciting name to watch out for. Wells has shown positive growth as an offensive catcher last season and is likely to make headlines in the future. Apart from these names, Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner Falefa will fight for the starting shortstop position. Furthermore, multiple outfielders will audition for the left-field position alongside Aaron Hicks.
