After the terrible 2023 season, the 2022 AL MVP mentioned publicly that the Yankees should do a better job of relaying information to players. Most importantly, the analytical information should reach the players in a more effective way. Finally, it seems the NY side heard the demand of their 16th captain. Lately, the owner, Hal Steinbrenner, added Aaron Leanhardt to the big league coaching staff as an analyst. Moreover, the team can already feel his influence. This week, in an interview with the New York Post’s Greg Joyce, Aaron Judge mentioned it was exciting to see the team adding Leanhardt.
Moreover, the Yankees captain mentioned it is a pretty important role as “That analyst.” He is the barrier between the players and the analytics. Moreover, Aaron Judge mentioned so far he is doing a great job of “Funneling the information down.” The Yankees captain feels the rest of his teammates will love him. Leanhardt has been part of the Yankees for seven seasons already. But prior to that, he has a Ph.D from MIT in physics. Later, he worked for seven years as a physics professor at Michigan University. As per The Post, Aaron Judge said Leanhardt is the “Smartest guy here.”
Why Yankees Needed An Analyst Like Leanhardt?
After failing to make the postseason, Aaron Judge mentioned the need for a change in the Yankees’ analytic system. Adding to that, Judge mentioned that they look at a lot of numbers. However, he felt they might be looking at the wrong ones. Last October, the Yankees captain told the reporters about why the analytics department needs a bit of change.
He added that they should value those numbers that most people might see as having no value. However, Aaron Judge also said that when teams have to play 162 games, numbers are not always effective. That’s when they just have to play through things. Hence, the Yankees Captain feels that it is not easy to put a number on certain things.
