New York Yankees’ newly appointed captain, Aaron Judge, was spotted doing rounds at the first base position during spring training.
A group of Yankees players led by Aaron Judge arrived early at the club’s Tampa base in Florida for spring training. The training is scheduled to commence on February 25. Aaron Judge, along with DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, Isiah Kiner Falefa, and Aaron Boone, was spotted training and doing rounds on their respective positions.
However, a particular video of the Yankees star slugger Aaron Judge is doing rounds on social media. According to MLB insider Bryan Hoch, Judge trained at first base during yesterday’s session. For an outfielder like Judge, doing rounds on the outfield is unusual. As the footage circulated online, rumors began to swirl that the Yankees were planning to move Judge from the outfield to first base, a position he had never played before. Here’s the whole truth behind Judge practicing at first base.
Aaron Judge Practicing At First Base To Assist Isiah Kiner Falefa
The face of the New York Yankees, Aaron Judge, decided to report early for spring training to manage his leadership duties. Moreover, a few key players decided to join the slugger and start early to get back in rhythm. Bryan Hoch, an MLB insider stationed outside the Yankees’ Tampa base camp, uploaded a video on his Twitter handle. The video featured Aaron Judge hovering around first base. As a result, the Yankee fan base started panicking at the thought of Judge moving into the infield.
However, the Yankees have not officially confirmed any plans to move Judge to first base, and it’s possible that the video was simply a training exercise. According to Adam Weinrib of Fansided, Aaron Judge merely assisted Isiah Kiner-Falefa with his training. Isiah needed someone to catch his throws, and Judge, the captain, chose to volunteer. While the slugger might not move infield anytime soon but he could continue playing center field despite Harrison Balder’s return.
DJ LeMahieu, Isiah Kiner Falefa Begins Training
While the New York Yankees spring training session is scheduled for 16th February, a few players reported early. Moreover, the group included DJ LeMahieu and Isiah Kiner Falefa. DJ missed last year’s postseason due to a toe injury. On top of that, the Yankees suffered heavily post DJ’s departure in the ALCS. However, the infielder is all healed and looked in good touch during the recent training session. DJ underwent multiple rounds at third base.
On the other hand, Isiah Kiner Falefa did good workout sessions in Florida yesterday. Despite trade rumors, the shortstop arrived in Tampa with his pet dog to participate in the training session. Meanwhile, the shortstop will have to fight for survival this spring session as the competition for the starting shortstop position is getting murkier day by day. Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza will likely start as favorites, having Isiah as a backup option. Moreover, a below-average performance at spring training would lead to Isiah’s ouster before the opening day.
