Before the 2024 F1 season even began, Lewis Hamilton made headlines by announcing a monumental move to Ferrari for 2025, marking the end of his historic run with Mercedes. With 105 race wins and six of his seven world titles claimed with Mercedes, Hamilton’s decision signals the close of a golden era that saw Mercedes achieve an unprecedented eight consecutive Constructors’ Championships from 2014 to 2021.

The date for Hamilton’s debut as a Ferrari driver has reportedly been set, though insiders reveal it’s being kept strictly confidential for now. Hamilton is set to replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari under a multi-year contract, with Sainz transitioning to Williams starting in 2025. This reshuffle signifies a significant shift in the F1 lineup, with fans eagerly anticipating how Hamilton’s experience and talent will contribute to Ferrari’s quest for championship glory in the upcoming seasons. However, a recent rumor suggested that Hamiton will become the only second driver after Michale Schumacher to reside in Enzo Ferrari’s home.

Ferrari Quashes Hamilton’s “Fiorina Residence” Rumors

Recent speculation surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s possible early test in a Ferrari during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix tire test has been thoroughly dispelled by reputable motorsport sources, including Motorsport and The Race. These outlets confirm that Hamilton’s current obligations with Mercedes prevent him from taking an early seat in Ferrari machinery, despite his high-profile move to the team in 2025.

Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari marks the end of a legendary run with Mercedes, which he joined in 2013 and won six of his seven world titles, solidifying their dominance in the sport. Although initially contracted with Mercedes through 2025, Hamilton activated a special clause allowing him to fulfill a long-held ambition: driving for Ferrari, a team he has admired since his childhood. This move aligns with his longstanding admiration for Ferrari’s rich legacy and racing icons, particularly Michael Schumacher.

Additional rumors suggested Hamilton might be given the rare privilege of staying in Enzo Ferrari’s Fiorano residence, a unique honor previously granted only to Schumacher. However, these claims have also been dismissed. Hamilton’s first drive in Ferrari colors is now anticipated for January at the Fiorano track, where he will pilot the F1-75 from the 2022 season. This early session will offer Hamilton valuable acclimatization time with Ferrari’s systems before the official pre-season testing in Bahrain set for late February, allowing him to ease into his new role with the Scuderia.

Fred Vasseur, Ferrari’s team principal, expressed confidence in Lewis Hamilton’s ability to adapt quickly to the team’s setup. He highlighted Hamilton’s extensive experience as a key factor in his expected smooth transition. Vasseur believes a minimal adjustment period will suffice, noting that Hamilton will participate in one or two Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) sessions, followed by pre-season testing in Bahrain, which should be ample preparation.

As Hamilton steps into his new role with Ferrari, fans eagerly anticipate his partnership with Charles Leclerc. With Carlos Sainz’s contract concluding at the end of 2024, leading to his confirmed move to Williams, Ferrari’s driver lineup will now feature a blend of Hamilton’s experience and Leclerc’s ambitious talent.
