In less than 3 days, the New York Yankees will face the Los Angeles Dodgers to fight for the ultimate title, the World Series ring. The seven-game series will kick off on October 25 at the Dodgers stadium, and ahead of the historic matchup, Aaron Boone is contemplating an ideal roster.

The offensive lineup will likely stay the same as skipper Aaron Boone will ensure to not mess with the winning combination much. However, the rotation lineup is what has caught the attention especially with injured Nestor Cortes making is way up in recovery from elbow injury. Will he make it in time for World Series?

The New York Yankees are gearing up for the World Series, and there’s a strong possibility that left-handed pitcher Nestor Cortes will return to bolster their roster. After spending the last month on the injured list with a flexor strain, Cortes is on the verge of making his dream of pitching in the Fall Classic a reality. Recently, manager Aaron Boone revealed during a press conference on Monday that there’s a “good chance” Cortes could be added to the World Series roster, provided he continues to progress well. Notably, Cortes recently threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session before Game 4 of the AL Championship Series (ALCS), and the results were increasingly encouraging.

“I was 88 to 91 (mph). I punched out two guys,” Cortes said. Meanwhile, the lefty is scheduled to throw live BP again on Tuesday during the New York Yankees’ workout, which will likely determine whether he’ll be included on the roster. Having said that, if Nestor Cortes does make the roster, he will likely take the spot of left-hander Tim Mayza and be used out of the bullpen. His return could provide the Yanks with much-needed depth and versatility as they prepare to face the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. On the other hand, ace Gerrit Cole has been confirmed to start Game 1 of the Fall Classic. Cole, the reigning AL Cy Young pitcher, is coming off a strong postseason performance, posting a 3.31 ERA in three starts. Hence, his start in the opening game of the World Series is a no-brainer choice for the skipper.
