The mystery of the ground effect has entangled the Mercedes team. Since the regulatory change introduction in 2022, the Brackley-based outfit has won just three races. Moreover, all teh three victories came in four races this season. This slight opening gave hope to the squad, which was crushed after the summer break. Thus, the technical team appears clueless in inculcating the ground effect into the W15.

However, the current regulations are about to end, and there is just one more season to go. Therefore, the Silver Arrows can use all the existing data to design a solid 2025 F1 car. The team has identified the critical areas that require changes. Moreover, it won’t be a radical change as only one season is left before another regulatory revamp. Recently, George Russell gave sight into Mercedes 2025 plans.

Mercedes “Uncovered” Key Changes To W15’s Successor

As the F1 United States Grand Prix approaches, Mercedes reflects on their recent struggles and considers their plans for next season’s car. George Russell highlighted the importance of the three-week break, which provided the team with the opportunity to take a step back and reassess the overall performance of their vehicle. During this time, they identified several changes they wanted to implement for the upcoming season. Russell noted that the demands of a racing season often leave little room for in-depth analysis of the car’s fundamentals, making this break particularly beneficial.

Mercedes faced challenges with their car’s floor and decided to revert to the previous version used before the Spa race instead of continuing with an updated specification. However, for the race in Austin, the team is introducing a new, updated package. Russell explained that reversing earlier upgrades means they effectively make two changes at once with this latest update. He expressed optimism that this upgrade would significantly impact them, allowing them to compete more effectively, especially in qualifying for the top four positions and aiming for a podium finish. Despite this positivity, Russell acknowledged that McLaren and Lando Norris are currently a step ahead, indicating the competitive nature of the field.

Mercedes Unveils Final Upgrade Package Of 2024

The Silver Arrows have released their car presentation document ahead of the US GP. The team will debut the much-anticipated floor, adding an additional vane element to the floor edge. In addition, the Mercedes W15 will have five more changes. The technical team has moved the sidepod inlet towards teh rear end for a circuit-specific gain.

The frog wings have also been changed with a tweak in flap distribution. Moreover, the front suspension is re-profiled to improve flow conditioning. Notable adjustments include modifications to the coke and engine cover, as well as updates to the floor fences.
