The New York Yankees secured a 2-0 lead in the seven-game AL Championship Series (ALCS) against Cleveland Guardians. Captain Aaron Judge finally broke the gates of his postseason flunk to slam a towering two-run homer. Alex Verdugo contributed with two RBIs to seal a 6-3 win.

Having said that, ace Gerrit Cole didn’t necessarily have the best day on the bound as he allowed six hits and two runs in 4.1 innings. On the other hand, the New York Yankees were also lousy while running the bases which irked announcer John Sterling. However, his unique analogy was dismissed by skipper Aaron Boone.

In a tense moment during the ALCS Game 2 against the Guardians, New York Yankees’ radio voice John Sterling expressed his frustration over what he deemed sloppy baserunning by the team, remarking that they “run the bases like drunks.” His comments came after two Yankee baserunners, Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Rizzo, were picked off at second base in a crucial sixth inning during their’ 6-3 victory. Sterling’s remarks on WFAN radio highlighted his disappointment with the team’s execution on the basepaths. The inning began with Chisholm doubling to left field and Anthony Volpe walking. Boone called for a double steal, but the plan backfired when Chisholm was picked off trying to advance to third base, a decision that left many scratching their heads.

However, despite the backlash, the New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone defended the aggressive baserunning approach. “We’re not going to not be aggressive in certain situations,” Boone said. He suggested that if Chisholm had been thrown out at third while attempting the steal, the narrative would have been different, reflecting the inherent risks in aggressive play.

Following Chisholm’s pickoff, Rizzo found himself in a rundown after breaking for third base on a wild pitch. His rundown was executed with precise coordination from the Guardians, resulting in a play that involved multiple defensive throws before finally tagging him out. Meanwhile, Chisholm echoed Sterling’s sentiment about the New York Yankees not playing their best baseball in the postseason with the stakes so high. His acknowledgment of the team’s struggle to meet their potential raises questions about their readiness as they advance deeper into the playoffs.

The New York Yankees took a commanding 2-0 lead in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) by defeating the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 in Game 2. This victory puts the Yankees in an advantageous position as they continue their quest for a World Series title, which has eluded them since 2009.

Meanwhile, captain Aaron Judge, who hit his first postseason home run of 2024 during the game, conveyed a message to the fans, urging them to “keep showing up,” thus reflecting on the importance of their support. While the Yankees will fly to Cleveland for the next couple of games, Judge advised fans to continue cheering. “Today was better, so let’s just keep it like that,” he said.
