New York Yankees veteran third baseman DJ LeMahieu had a last shot at proving himself useful this season as he entered the fourth year of his six-year extension contract. However, the season turned out to be an absolute nightmare for LeMahieu due to multiple injury setbacks.

DJ LeMahieu missed the initials two months of the season due to foot injury sustained in spring training. Upon return, his form was awful before a hip impingement injury ruled him out again. Meanwhile, with his season return under scanner, LeMahieu shed light on his injury status and revealed if a return before October is actually a possibility.

DJ LeMahieu, who has been an integral part of the New York Yankees’ lineup due to his versatility and consistent hitting, acknowledged the frustration of dealing with the injury but emphasized his determination to recover. The veteran missed 54 games due to a foot injury before hitting a career-worst slump. Last week, the team placed him on 15-day IL, citing hip impingement injury. Aaron Boone mentioned earlier that he is uncertain about DJ’s potential return this season since time is running out. However, LeMahieu is optimistically working on his return. In a first interview, he mentioned having a cortisone shot on the hip that had been troubling him for a while before the IL stint commenced.

“I love this group of guys. I really think this is going to be a really fun next month and a half,” DJ LeMahieu said. It’s important to note that a potential surgery is ruled out at the moment as the infielder is working on a proper rehab plan. Notably, LeMahieu was hitting .204 with two home runs, 26 RBIs, and a .527 OPS in 67 games this season. Hence, his absence wouldn’t make much of an impact on the Yankee roster. The third baseman still has two years left on his contract and is owed $30 million. However, given the financial constraints, he could be laid off. Overall, as the New York Yankees navigate the final stretch of the season, DJ LeMahieu’s recovery will be closely monitored, with fans and the organization hoping for a speedy return of one of their most dependable players.
