Adrian Newey swept Red Bull’s world off their feet when he announced his exit from the organisation after the first quarter of 2025 season. Newey, who was contracted until 2026, quit prematurely in the wake of internal political instability. That marks the end of his 20-year-old tenure with Red Bull.

However, Adrian Newey, 65, is not yet ready to hang up his hat yet. After being heavily linked to iconic Scuderia Ferrari, especially with seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton coming in next year, Newey has apparently signed a deal with Aston Martin to fulfil his desire to work with a veteran two-time champion from Spain.

Adrian Newey, with 40 years of experience as a motorsport engineer, is all set to embrace a new challenge at Aston Martin after quitting Red Bull Racing earlier this year. As per BBC Sports, Newey has signed a five-year deal with Astons for a £30 million annual salary. While Newey preferred to join Ferrari owing to his long-awaited wish, a deal couldn’t materialise due to Lawrence Stroll’s monetary power. Ferrari avoided a bidding way with Martins and dropped out of the pursuit. Meanwhile, besides the money, another reason Newey potentially chose Aston Martin could be to work with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. The 43-year-old is the oldest driver on the grid with still the same potential to win races.

In an interview, Adrian Newey once rated Fernando Alonso very highly. He expressed his desire to work with him as Alonso is a fantastic driver, according to Newey. “Fernando’s ability often exceeds the car in his hands. I think that’s the mark of a truly great driver,” Newey said. Not only that, in a recent podcast, the engineer stated that Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are the two drivers he would love to work with. However, the Ferrari dream is unlikely to materialise as following the five-year deal, Newey is unlikely to continue in F1. He would be 70, and the pressure of Formula 1 would be too fierce for Newey to handle. Regardless, Aston Martin, with Lawrence Stroll’s money, improved facilitates, Honda partnership and Adrian Newey, is looking dangerously closer to dominating the tracks of F1, especially after the 2026 engine regulation overhaul.

It appears business tycoon Lawrence Stroll won’t stop his quest to build a powerful racing outfit at just Adrian Newey. As per F1 creator Cameron, Stroll could target three-time world champion Max Verstappen next. He argued that Aston Martin has everything in place, from facilities to Honda partnership to Adrian Newey for the 2026 season.

The only piece of the puzzle is Max Verstappen. And if Aston Martin begins to produce results under Adrian Newey’s leadership, Verstappen could be a realistic target for them. While the dream is far fetched, Lawrence Stroll is ruthless when is comes to taking bold decisions for the betterment of his racing outfit. The next season will state the record clear for sure.
