The New York Yankees lost Jazz Chisholm Jr to an unfortunate elbow injury and placed him on 10-day IL days leading upto the series opener against Detroit Tigers. Of course, the infield depth took a huge hit as Jazz was witnessing a sharp surge in his offensive performance.

Regardless, Jazz Chisholm Jr’s abrupt injury proved to be a blessing in disguise for Yankees top infield prospect Oswald Peraza. The farm system product was recalled to major league and left an immediate impact on his season debut which left captain Aaron Judge extremely impressed as he lauded Perez in the post-game interview.

Jazz Chisholm Jr’s heartbreaking move to IL due to elbow UCL injury paved the way for New York Yankees highly rated infield prospect Oswald Peraza as he was recalled to the majors as an immediate replacement. Peraza was supposed to star on opening day in place of injured DJ LeMahieu. However, he sustained a shoulder injury during spring training, which ruled him out of action for 10 weeks. Regardless of the lost opportunity, Peraza didn’t stop his grind in the minor league. In the last 15 games before his major league career up, the infielder was hitting .291 with six home runs and 1.063 OPS. He was itching for a place on the roster to open up, and Chisholm’s injury appeared to be a blessing in disguise for the kid.

Meanwhile, Oswald Peraza didn’t let the golden opportunity to start at third base against the Detroit Tigers on Friday pass. In his second at-bat of the season debut game, Peraza slammed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to extend the Yankees lead to 2-0 before Aaron Judge joined the party. The captain slammed his season 44th home run to avail a 3-0 victory for the New York Yankees. Meanwhile, Judge was extremely impressed with Peraza’s heroics on season debut. Having seen his growth since the day the prospect first arrived in the majors a couple of years back, Judge felt proud to see Peraza step up to seize his opportunity. Aaron Judge further acknowledged that the start of the season for the infielder wasn’t ideal as he sustained an injury. Still, to extend the team’s lead in the clutch situation is indeed a huge moment.
