The New York Yankees lose series opener against Toronto Blue Jays at the Yankee Stadium on Friday as Marcus Stroman imploded with 7-run start. The starting pitcher was removed after just 2.2 innings before the relievers were tasked with the hard job to avoid further damage.

However, the hitters also didn’t support the team, resulting in a 8-5 defeat. That being said, in an interesting moment during the fourth inning, Yankees manager Aaron Boone pulled second baseman Gleyber Torres out of the game over massive base running blunder that could have tied the game, thus resulting in a massive showdown.

Friday night turned out to be an embarrassing outing for New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres as he produced a massive brain-fade gaffe that cost the Yanks a scoring opportunity. In the second inning, Torres was admiring his line drive toward left field, which he thought was a home run. However, the 363-foot swing bounced back into the field after hitting the wall, and the infielder didn’t sprint out of the batter’s box, which forced him to settle for a single. Later in the same inning, Torres was caught out at home while scoring on Anthony Volpe’s double. Needless to say, if the infielder had reached second base in his at-bat, he would have comfortably made it home and tied the game for the Yanks.

That being said, Gleyber Torres didn’t walk back to the dugout and took his position at second base for the third inning. However, before the Yankees walked out for the fourth inning, manager Aaron Boone pulled him out on disciplinary actions. He was benched immediately for his lack of hustle on base paths, and for the first time this season, the skipper was seen vocally holding someone accountable. Meanwhile, Torres was pissed at the call and animatedly tried to pitch his case to a defiant Boone. However, the manager had made his decision and snubbed Torres to the bench. Utility player Oswaldo Cabrera took his place at second base for the rest of the game. As tensions escalated, Boone said he did what he felt was the right call at the moment. It’s a much-needed lesson and wake-up call for not just Torres but to everyone who’s taking this game for granted.

Meanwhile, Gleyber Torres was remorseful of his brain fade moment that cost the Yankees a scoring opportunity in an 8-5 loss to the Blue Jays. Torres agreed with Aaron Boone’s call and apologised for mistakes. “I think he did the right thing, especially at the moment. I feel very sorry for what I did tonight,” Torres said.

Interestingly, Aaron Boone and Gleyber Torres have apparently sorted out the differences, with captain Aaron Judge also having a detailed discussion with the infielder. Moreover, the New York Yankees are confident that such an instance won’t be repeated ever again. And hence, Torres is expected to start on Saturday as usual at second base.
