The New York Yankees have been under immense pressure to stay alive in the playoff race amid a losing stretch. And a big frustrating factor is the lack of production from regular veteran guys, especially third baseman DJ LeMahieu. LeMahieu has scored just a home run in 43 games since delayed debut.

However, despite atrocious at-bats, the New York Yankees continue to extend his leash solely on the basis of his past glory and veteran stature. That being said, with the playoff berth at stake, MLB insider Jon Heyman firmly believes the end of the road could be near for LeMahieu.

Since joining the New York Yankees in 2019, veteran third baseman DJ LeMahieu has been a standout player, earning two Silver Slugger awards and finishing in the top four in MVP voting twice. However, his recent decline is particularly concerning, given his previous performance and injury concerns. Moreover, LeMahieu’s batting average and on-base percentage plummeted to career lows, and his inability to find his form has been a significant factor in the Yanks’ offensive struggles. Hence, while discussing the Yanks potential future moves, MLB insider Jon Heyman suggested that LeMahieu could be a DFA candidate going forward. While the Yanks are trying their best to avoid the situation, they just cannot keep a player who’s not hitting at all.

Notably, designating DJ LeMahieu for the assignment would be a bold and costly decision. He is in the midst of a six-year, $90 million contract, and parting ways with him would mean absorbing a substantial financial hit. Additionally, LeMahieu’s versatility in playing multiple infield positions has been a valuable asset for the Yankees, making this potential move even more complex. Regardless, owing to an incessant decline, nothing can be ruled out at this moment. Also the decision to DFA LeMahieu would also send a strong message about the New York Yankees’ urgency to address their current performance issues. It would signal that no player is immune to accountability, regardless of past achievements. Overall, while LeMahieu’s slump is undeniable, the Bronx Bombers’ decision-makers must carefully consider all factors before making such a drastic move.

Giancarlo Stanton To Be Activated In Yankees Lineup Next Week

In what could be a massive boost in the slumping hitting lineup, the New York Yankees is expected to activate powerful slugger Giancarlo Stanton from IL next week. Stanton went on injury list last month with hamstring strain. He was hitting .246 with 18 home runs and 45 RBIs before the beginning of IL stint. However, with the slugger recovery better than anticipated, the team decided to scarp the minor league assignment.

As per New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Giancarlo Stanton will be activated off IL on Monday if his final assessment is satisfactory. Notably, amid a losing stretch, having Stanton could be a massive sign of encouragement for the Bronx Bombers. He is one of the most feared hitters on the plate when healthy. However, despite a strong start, Stanton’s form could take a hit following a prolonged injury layoff.
