The New York Yankees are relying too much on Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. These superstars can have bad days at the plate. That’s when the team needs other hitters to step up. Lately, though, it has not been happening. The way the Bronx Bombers started the 2024 season, it seemed they would be clear favorites to make the World Series this year. However, since June 13, the NY side has failed to hold on to the winning momentum. They went 6-16 in the next 22 games in the previous month. However, the way they started the month of July was not promising either. At first, they went 4-8 before the Midsummer Classic.
But then, in the very first series after the All-Star break, the Bronx Bombers had a 2-2 series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Later, in the Subway Series, the fans expected more from the Bronx Bombers. But after the game on Tuesday, the New York Mets have an upper hand on the two-game series. In Game 1, the visitors won 3-2. But questions might surely arise on the weak middle of the batting order of Aaron Boone’s side.
Yankees Couldn’t Make The Mets Pay Despite Aaron Judge Walking Four Times
Clearly, the Yankees are not having a strong batting order. Moreover, injuries and inconsistencies of veteran sluggers, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo have messed up the process for Boone. The manager has made questionable changes on Tuesday’s batting order of the Pinstripes. He added Jahmai Jones as the leadoff hitter and also JD Davis as the cleanup hitter. Things did not work out as well as Aaron Boone might have planned. Moreover, the New York Mets came up with shrewd tactics to keep the current season’s leading home run slugger quite. Clearly, Aaron Judge had an off day in Game 1 of the latest Subway Series. He barely managed to connect the bat on Tuesday. After the game, as per ABC News, Aaron Judge mentioned that Jose Quintana, the Mets starter was “Being careful.”
He added that Quintana was aware of what they have been doing throughout the season. Moreover, Judge noted, “I think they are trying to be careful, but you got to pass the baton to the next time.” He did pass the baton as he walked four times on Tuesday. But JD Davis and the hitters that followed could not quite capitalize on the opportunities. Subsequently, the Mets won 3-2. Other hitters, like Davis, Anthony Volpe, Gleyber Torres and so on really need to step up now.
Aaron Boone Made Changes, But It Didn’t Work
In the post-game interview, as per SNY, Aaron Boone mentioned that there have been some more teams that have used the same approach against Aaron Judge. The Mets just did not pitch anything within his arc. But Boone believes the middle of the batting order needs to settle down here. Then, they can come back to bite any approaches that opponents use. That would make them go after the 2022 AL MVP. JD Davis was there in the lineup to counter the southpaw Jose Quintana.
But the plan did not work for Boone. However, the manager is constantly trying to find production from players not named Juan Soto or Aaron Judge. That’s getting really difficult to find at present. As a result, the Yankees are finding it hard to get back on top of the AL East.
