Lewis Hamilton’s surprise decision to join with Ferrari has upended the whole grid. While it was his childhood dream to compete for Ferrari, the move sparked worry among several Formula One racers. Hamilton will take over as Ferrari’s driver in 2025, replacing Carlos Sainz. As a result, the Spaniard’s racing career is put on pause until he can find a new team. Furthermore, Hamilton’s departure sparked panic in the Mercedes organization, which sought to find a successor.
However, F1 fans thought the Silver Arrows would be the best fit for Sainz since they would give him stability. Others believed that Red Bull would replace struggling Sergio Perez with the Spaniard, who had had a successful 2024 season thus far. However, Carlos’ Red Bull voyage ended before it had begun when the team re-signed Perez. Furthermore, he dismissed Williams’ reports, leaving Mercedes as the only feasible alternative.
Carlos Indirectly Declines Williams Offer As Rumours Suggest A Move To Red Bull Or Mercedes
The jokes about the possibility of Carlos Sainz driving a safety car for 2025 are going viral on the internet. It is due to the inability of the Spaniard to find a new home. The current Ferrari driver would have to give off his seat to Lewis Hamilton for the next season. Moreover, Sainz is at the center of the entire driver’s carousel, as the fortunes of other drivers somewhat depend on his decisions. Notably, the delay in his decision would significantly impact drivers like Valterri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. Before the Spanish GP, rumors were suggesting Sainz’s transfer to Williams. However, in an interview, the 29-year-old racer laughed off these speculations, dismissing them as a joke. Thus, the only options left are Mercedes and Red Bull.
However, initially, Mercedes was determined to call up the young Italian prodigy Kimi Antonelli. Subsequently, Toto Wolff claimed the team was in no hurry to offer a seat to Antonelli as he was still too young. Thus, this could open the doors for Sainz, who could be a perfect replacement for Hamilton. On the other hand, Red Bull is also contemplating renewing Checo’s contract. The Mexican driver has been enduring one of the roughest patches of his career as he consistently fails to deliver. Thus, if Christian Horner and CO decide to end Pererz’s contract prematurely, they might knock on Sainz’s door.
THIS Is Why Red Bull Won’t Sign Carlos Sainz
However, the Red Bull over isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Max Verstappen, the RBR starlet, shared seats with Sainz in his early racing days. Thus, the two shared some sour moments, which could have hindered this move.
Moreover, the biggest challenge is the long-lasting rift between Sr Verstappen and Sr Sainz. Jos Verstappen (Max’s father) and Carlos Sainz Sr (Carlos’s father) were teammates during the Toro Rosso days. Further, they had a fierce rivalry, putting their bond on thin ice. Hence, the Milton Keynes-based squad would prefer to avoid any clash among the team as it is already suffering from chaos.
