With the season heading into All-Star break, the New York Yankees front office is busy sorting out trade options ahead of the August 1 deadline. From the bullpen to the infield, the Yanks have a lot of roster gaps to fill, and a couple of strong moves at the deadline have not been ruled out. Hence, ahead of the much-anticipated trade deadline, here are the top 5 best options for Yanks to pursue potential trades.

1. Matt Chapman, 3B, San Francisco Giants

The New York Yankees are losing patience with non-performing infielders like Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu. Hence, it’s time for a change, and Matt Chapman, known for his exceptional defensive skills and power-hitting capabilities, would be a significant addition to the Yanks’ infield. His presence at third base would solidify the defense, and his ability to hit for power would enhance the lineup. The Giants would not give him up easily. But given his upside, Chapman is worth a shot for the Bombers.

2. Tanner Scott, RP, Miami Marlins

The bullpen is another major issue for the New York Yankees besides the infield. Clay Holmes is not the pitcher he was at the start of the season, and the bullpen needs serious reinforcement to get back to life. Hence, Tanner Scott, a left-handed reliever, is the rental solution the Bombers could pursue. He has had a 1.38 ERA across 38 games this year with a high strikeout rate. However, acquiring Scott would be reactively difficult due to multiple suitors.

3. Kirby Yates, RP, Texas Rangers

Kirby Yates is a veteran reliever with a proven track record of success in the big leagues. Despite recent injury struggles, Yates owns an impressive 0.81 ERA in 33 appearances this season. He also recorded 15 saves and is a like-for-like replacement for Holmes. Additionally, Kirby Yates is an impending free agent, which means that he will fall into the Yankees’ allocated price range as a rental piece.

4. Jonathan India, SS, Cincinnati Reds

Traditionally a shortstop, Jonathan India has relative experience playing at second base which makes him an ideal replacement for Gleyber Torres. This year, India has had .274 batting average, .373 on-base percentage and eight homers in 307 at-bats. However, the only downside of the former National League Rookie of the Year, is that he won’t come cheap since he is under Reds’ control until 2027. Hence, to acquire him, the Yankees would be required to take a leap of faith.

5. Nathan Eovaldi, SP, Texas Rangers

Nathan Eovaldi stands out as another ideal trade target for the New York Yankees. The right-handed pitcher has been in excellent form this season, showcasing his ability to dominate on the mound. He owns a 2.97 ERA in 16 starts this year and is striking out one batter per inning. Not only that, Eovaldi has an impressive postseason success record, which makes him an even more attractive trade target. Hence, if Luis Gil succumbs to the 162-game season grind, Nathan can cover for him for the rest of the year in the rotation.
