The team recently extended Checo’s contract despite having several other options to replace him. Rookies like Liam Lawson and veterans like Daniel Ricciardo were in the queue to partner up with Verstappen. However, the RBR principal showcased trust in the Mexican racer and extended his contract. Since the announcement, Checo has scored 11 points in five outings.
Moreover, the Silverstone weekend was another disappointment as Checo filed to enter Q1. As a result, he had to start from the back of the grid, only managing to finish at P17. Thus, Horner acknowledged this and claimed it to be ‘unsustainable’ for the team as the competition is consistently rising. Further, the British motorsport executive emphasized the importance of scoring points in a car like RB20. Moreover, Horner feels Checo is aware of the circumstances, and no one is more eager than him to regain the form. However, he expressed frustration at both cars not performing collectively, leaving the team in the midst of nowhere.
