Motorsport’s most celebrated driver, Lewis Hamilton, has finally re-established his excellence. The seven-time world champion had a terrific outing on a conventional Barcelona track. While Hamilton was the quickest during one of the practice sessions, he was also in contention for pole on Saturday. However, the Briton started at P3 and finished at the same spot. Additionally, the Spanish GP could provide the required momentum to the experienced racer, who is set to join Ferrari in 2025.
While the 39-year-old showcased his excellence, his future team had a forgetful weekend. The Ferrari’s F1 project SF-24 seemed slow and out of balance. As a result, the Maranello racers had to settle for P5 and P6, below both the Mercedes drivers. Thus, this has spurred speculation about whether Hamilton will regret his switch to the Scuderia team after the Silver Arrow’s comeback.
“No, not at all,” Hamilton Confirms He Doesn’t Regret The Ferrari Move
The Spanish GP was one of the most crucial races of Hamilton’s career, as he was amid a rut. The Briton endured immense pressure and delivered a stellar performance on the biggest stage, achieving his best result of 2024. However, he was asked about his decision to join the Ferrari squad during the post-race conference. Since the reason for Hamilton’s switch was lacklustre Mercedes. However, the team’s resurgence has placed them among the top teams.
On the other hand, Ferrari has looked underwhelming in the past couple of weekends. The team was tipped to improve on the Barcelona track, with local boy Carlos Sainz and Monaco GP winner Charles Leclerc. When Hamilton was pushed to P4, he instantly executed a phenomenal move to overtake Carlos Sainz, who he will replace next year. Therefore, the W15 seemed superior to SF-24 on the Sunday race.
Consequently, Hamilton was asked whether he regretted signing the deal with the Scuderia. He adamantly said, ‘No,’ further explaining his 13-year run with Mercedes. Moreover, he reaffirmed his goals for the farewell season with the German Marque, as he was eyeing a victory before leaving teh squad. Furthermore, he opened up about his ‘job’ for the next season, claiming that the Ferrari is doing a ‘great job.’ The Briton added that despite a couple of rough races, we can’t overlook the Prancing Horse’s performance in Monaco. Later, the Ferrari-bound driver mentioned the SF-24’s struggle, claiming he was unaware of the issue behind its current performance. Further, he seemed confident that the team would regain momentum as the technical team is working constantly to bring new upgrades.
“He Is Clearly Getting Old,” Max Verstappen Teases Lewis Hamilton During The Post-Race Conference
The seven-time world champion, who had an excellent Spanish GP, was seen lying down on the couch. During the post-race conference, Hamilton stretched out while waiting for the media. Also, his phone was playing Bob Marley’s song, ‘Could You Be Love.’
However, when Max Verstappen entered the conference room, he teased Hamilton, who was just resting. The Spanish GP winner jokingly said, “He’s clearly getting old….clearly getting a bit old.” The Dutchman advised his fellow driver to get a massage after a tiring day on the circuit.
