On Friday, the New York Yankees got hammered by the Atlanta Braves in the series opener at Yankee Stadium. Carlos Rodon’s 8-run start brought doomsday for Yanks as the hitters struggled to score under pressure. That being said, with frustration boiling over, Juan Soto was called out against veteran Braves pitcher Chris Sale’s slider in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, the generational star believed otherwise. Soto was visibly frustrated with the call made by the home plate umpire, which led to a brief argument. Eventually, the slugger lost the battle and had to walk back to the dugout. However, Juan’s antics didn’t sit well with Braves broadcaster Darren O’Day.
He suggested that Juan Soto’s constant complaining sets a poor example and disrupts the flow of the game. “That infuriates me watching Juan Soto complain to the umpire,” O’Day said on air. He added that Soto was called out fair and square. The slider was perfect, and the strike zone was the same for everyone. The former Braves pitcher also advised the generational star to head back to the dugout, pick up his iPad and have a glance at the reviews.
According to this viewpoint, Soto’s behaviour crosses that line, appearing more as petulance than constructive feedback. That being said, Soto didn’t necessarily have a field day against the Braves and went hitless in four at-bats. The only run for the Yankees came from DJ LeMahieu‘s RBI single at the bottom of the season’s innings. With that, the Bombers are now trailing 1-0 in the three-game home series.

Juan Soto is once again back in the history books with yet another prolific record that he achieved at a young age. The 25-year-old slugger received his career 700th walk recently against the Orioles on Sunday, and he is the first-ever slugger in the history of the league to clock as many walks before turning 26.
