Draymond Green has always been an integral part of the Golden State Warriors since 2012. Along with the Splash Brothers – Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry, the veteran forward helped the Dubs organization to become a modern-day dynasty. However, the Dubs Dynasty seems to be fading away with the ageing trio. But they are not giving up yet. The Dub Nation would want the franchise to keep the same core so that they can win one more title, at least together. Previously, the Dubs trio managed to win four NBA Championships in a span of eight years.
But in the last two years, they have lost their dominance to a certain degree. On the other hand, teams like the Denver Nuggets and the Boston Celtics emerged as new champions. Albeit the Boston franchise is not new to winning titles, they have not won a championship since 2008. However, that long wait and drought came to an end this year, thanks to the duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Looking at this duo, several fans believe the Celtics can become a dynasty once again. However, Draymond Green doesn’t think that’s possible.
Why Does Draymond Green Think Celtics Won’t Be Able To Build A Dynasty Again?
Who can forget the legend, Bill Russell? The ‘Secretary of Defense’ led the Boston Celtics to 11 NBA Championships in only 13 seasons. Later, the legend Larry Bird led the same franchise to three more championships. There was a time in the NBA when it seemed like the Celtics enjoyed a different level of ‘Dynasty.’ But then came the Los Angeles Lakers to challenge their dynasty. After the 2019-2020 season, both the Lakers and Celtics shared 17 titles each. But after the latest NBA season, the Celtics again became the most successful franchise in history with 18 championships. In the 2023-2024 NBA Final series, the Boston franchise defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 to win their 18th and end the drought since 2008. However, the four-time champion forward of the Warriors does not think the Brown-Tatum duo can build another Dynasty from here on.
Lately, on the episode of ‘The Draymond Green Show,’ the veteran forward mentioned that he thinks the current Celtics team is worthy to win more titles. However, talking about a potential dynasty, Green doesn’t see that happening because of new rules, a ‘second apron’ and so on. Albeit, those things have not started yet, Green noted, “When those things start to kick in, it will change things.” Moreover, Draymond Green mentioned that when those rules start impacting the game, there is a good chance that there may be no more dynasties in the future. Nonetheless, the veteran forward added that the Celtics have a chance to build one quickly.
What It Takes To Build A Dynasty?
Draymond Green said on the latest episode of his podcast that there is a good chance that the Boston side won’t be as hungry the next time to win a title as they were this time. However, he added that of course, the Celtics will have the goal to win the next championship. But Green mentioned, “It does not feel the same to win the first million dollars and winning the second million dollars.”
He said it does not drive from the same place. Moreover, the veteran forward mentioned that only after the Warriors won three titles in four years did people start calling them a ‘Dynasty.’ Now, can the Celtics do the same with the Tatum-Brown duo? Only time can answer that.
