Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing registered one of the most dominant seasons ever in F1 in 2023. They won 22 of the 23 races to claim the drivers’ and constructors’ titles conformably. While the RB-series is still the fastest challenger on the grid this year, RB’s dominance has been compromised.
Reigning World Champion Max Verstappen has won six off the nine races held this year. He is facing stiff competition from the likes of McLaren, Ferrari and even Mercedes if we count the Canada GP results. However, Aston Martin seems to have already conceded defeat amid difficult season.
Fernando Alonso Predicts 2024 F1 Season World Champion
Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s lead driver and three-time World Champion, is leading the championship standings by 56 points. However, this season hasn’t been remotely close to the dominant 2023 year, where RB had a 99% win record. However, in 2024, Ferrari and McLaren have covered significant ground to close down the gap to a bare minimum. Max started the season with two wins on the trot before facing a DNF in Australia due to an overheating brake issue. Verstappen once again unleashed dominance in Japan and China but fell short of 0.7 seconds to Lando Norris in Miami. The defending world champion’s fate challenged him again in Monaco, and he barely survived the scare in Canada to finish with 6 race wins.
However, despite the championship race heating up, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has tipped Max Verstappen to claim his fourth title comfortably this year. Alonso argued that Ferrari and McLaren are more prone to mistakes, and the one who makes fewer mistakes will claim the title, i.e., Red Bull. Notably, Red Bull’s issues at street circuits have been exposed this year as RB20’s suspension has been extremely stiff on kerbs. The same issues nearly destroyed Max’s race in Montreal. Fortunately, Red Bull Racing has traditional circuits coming up starting from Barcelona. And without a doubt, the RB20 is still the strongest and most fast-paced car on the circuit compared to its immediate rivals. Hence, Verstappen shouldn’t necessarily face much problem in the drivers championship. However, with Checo failing to score points, Red Bull’s constructors titles is definitely under risk as the gap to Ferrari has reduced to 49 points.
Max Verstappen Looking Forward To Terrific Spanish Grand Prix
After getting back on the winning momentum in Montreal, Canada, Max Verstappen aims to fetch similar results in Barcelona. The countdown to the Spanish Grand Prix has begun, and Verstappen is confident that the circuit suits RB20. “It has a good mix of high and low-speed corners, and we have historically driven well there,” Max said.
Max Verstappen added that Red Bull aims to keep the Canada Grand Prix momentum going, and hopefully, good weather will prevail in a smooth race. “Looking forward to racing this weekend and hopefully have some good weather,” Verstappen added. Notably, the acclaimed Dutch driver won in Barcelona last year by finishing 24 seconds ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
