The New York Yankees have missed their ace and reigning AL CY Young pitcher Gerrit Cole dearly this year. The ace knocked down his elbow during spring and has been sidelined ever since on a 60-day IL. While Cole has stayed with the team as a mentor, his absence has left a void on the rotation.

After Clarke Schmidt went down with lat strain, the New York Yankees essentially missed Gerrit Cole on their starting rotation. However, the wait seems to be finally over for the Yankee fans as manager Aaron Boone has announced a tentative season debut date for the defending CY Young pitcher.

The New York Yankees are set to welcome back their ace pitcher, Gerrit Cole, who will make his season debut this week following an elbow injury. Cole’s return is eagerly anticipated by the team and fans alike, as his presence on the mound is crucial for the Yanks’ long-term success. Gerrit Cole has been sidelined due to a significant elbow injury that kept him out of action during the early part of the season. He rehabbed for over two months before eventually kicking off his rehab assignment in the minor league last month. Cole pitched three minor league starts, with the latest one coming on last Friday. The pitcher struck out 10 hitters and expressed confidence in his fitness.

Meanwhile, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Friday that the franchise will discuss on the future course of action for Gerrit Cole over the weekend. As per Talkin Yanks, Boone has informed them that the ace will be making his season debut against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. Notably, Gerrit Cole is expected to replace Cody Poteet on the starting rotation and rejoin the roster without any limitations. Interestingly, Cole’s return comes at a pivotal moment for the Yankees, who have faced challenges in their pitching staff in the past week. His return is expected to provide much-needed stability and leadership to the pitching staff. Meanwhile, the Yankee fans have been eagerly awaiting Cole’s return and as soon as the debut date got confirmed, they have been expressing their excitement on multiple social media platforms.

In a massive setback to the New York Yankees, first baseman and impending free agent Anthony Rizzo is headed to IL for the next 4-6 weeks due to an arm fracture. Rizzo had a collision with a Red Sox defender at first base on Sunday. He rolled thrice and immediately picked up his arm while screaming in pain.

Anthony Rizzo was taken out for the game and initial scans came back negative. However, as Rizzo reported significant pain, the Yankees did additional tests in New York on Monday which ruled a fracture. So far, the Yanks are yet to announce a roster move. It’s plausible the team can call up Oswald Peraza or even Ben Rice from minor league.
