Luis Gil’s major league journey with the New York Yankees has been a bumpy ride filled with injury setbacks. Gil encountered a Tommy John surgery in 2022 followed by a shoulder issue faced last year. However, the year 2024 proved to be a season of redemption for Gil.

Luis Gil, who’s still holding the rookie status, has been the New York Yankees’ best-starting pitcher thus far, thus outclassing some of his most prolific peers. Moreover, with the All-Star game approaching, Gil’s odds of qualification are hitting through the roof, and the rookie cannot help but dream about the fateful day.

Luis Gil, the young and talented pitcher for the New York Yankees, has his sights set on an ambitious goal: earning a spot in the All-Star Game. Gil, who has made a significant impact since his debut, views this potential achievement as both a blessing and a dream come true. Despite his career being marred by injuries, the rookie has always fought back to keep his dream and passion for the game alive. In his first full season since 2022, Gil has been one of the best starters in the American League. After the 4-3 loss to Kansas City Royals on Thursday, Gil’s ERA (2.04) is the third best in AL. He is currently in the mix of potential candidates for the AL-All-Star Starter’s spot.

That being said, while Luis Gil wants to stay focused on the season, he cannot help but dream about the momentous milestone. “If I’m given the opportunity, I would love to participate and pitch,” said Gil in the post-game interview. Besides the All-Star dream, Gil is also leading the race to be crowned as the AL Rookie of the Year award. However, his health status will be a decisive factor. Gil insists that he is in the right spot and that the inning limitation is not on the cards. With the right preparation and vigilance, Gil believes he can pitch all the way to October. That being said, manager Aaron Boone suggests that the Yankees will be keeping an eye on Gil’s workload. On days when the team lands in a good spot, they won’t push Luis Gil unnecessarily and will avoid any instances of needless and avoidable risks.

New York Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake insisted that a potential workload management plan for rookie starter Luis Gil is not on the cards as the pitcher is hitting the ceiling in his first full-season since 2022 Tommy John surgery. The Yanks are satisfied with Gil’s progress and will continue to back him.

Not only that, Matt Blake insists that Luis Gil’s preparations are on point and that he has been mindful of his innings depth. Hence, the Yankees do not feel the need to fix something that isn’t broken. Until and unless Gil comes up with some issue or discomfort, the team won’t pull the plug on Gil’s existing schedule.
