The Golden State Warriors had a terrible season this year, which was really disappointing for the Dub Nation. They wanted the Big 3 to have one last championship run. Moreover, the team or the Dynasty does not look complete without the big three names—Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. Albeit, they have a few more years to go before they hang their boots. Nevertheless, Father Time is approaching rapidly. It does not seem like the Big 3 of the Dubs Dynasty are in their prime anymore. Moreover, in the 2023-2024 season, the Warriors blew their chance to win a fifth title in a span of ten years.
That would be a nice legacy to have. For those three stars of the Bay Area, it would be a great feeling to retire with five titles in a decade. But Green’s back-to-back suspensions messed up their season early on. Later, Klay Thompson struggled with his shooting prowess. It seems to diminish gradually. Moreover, Thompson’s scoreless outing against the Sacramento Kings in the play-in game was the final nail in the coffin this year. Now, the Dub Nation wonders if the GSW franchise will extend the contract of the impending free agent.
NBA Insider Believes Warriors Will Retain Klay Thompson
The Sacramento Kings knocked the Warriors out of the 2023-2024 season. They didn’t even make the playoffs, as their campaign came to an end in the play-in tournament. Klay Thompson disappointed the Dubs Nation with a scoreless outing against the Kings. Now, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Hence, the fans worry that it might be the end of the Dubs Dynasty as the core Big 3 may not end up together. However, as of late, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus wrote that the Golden State Warriors may stick with the same core Big 3 till the 2026-2027 season. They might extend Klay’s contract till 2027.
Stephen Curry will be 38 in 2027. On the other hand, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will turn 36. Coming to the fag end of their basketball career, the Dubs trio would want to end the Dynasty with a bang. The fifth title for the trio, is it going to happen? Only time can answer that. Lately, though there were rumors that the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic have shown interest in hiring Thompson. But as per Eric Pincus, the Sixers would be happier with Paul George who is a better defender than Thompson. Moreover, the Warriors are not yet ready to part ways with any of the three four-time champions.
Why It’s Not Easy For The Dubs To Let Klay Go?
Klay Thompson was frustrating to watch for the major portion of the ongoing season. Despite his decline, the Splash Brother of Stephen Curry is still one of the top tier marksman from the three-point range. It is always a prominent trait in an NBA star part of any rotation. Most importantly, Klay is still part of the GSW DNA through and through.
It would really look weird to see Thompson wearing any other jersey and not the Dubs uniform alongside Curry and Green. Nevertheless, the fact is that the Warriors are facing several roster-related problems. Hence, only time can tell how the Dubs franchise deals with those problems.
